An Odd Question for the Ladies

(Bubba) #1

I know this is an odd question but its a very important and distressing one, for me anyway.

Have any of you ladies on here ever had the Depo contraceptive injection? If so, were you told the horrid side effects of coming off it would be alleviated by following a zero carb diet? I just wanted to know if this has worked for anyone after coming off the injection.

I wish to god this contraceptive would be taken off the market, its actually given to sex offenders to chemically castrate them…theyre giving this out to countless women without knowing ANY of the side effects of coming off it. The effects are endless but the ones we’re all commonly suffering from are:
Headaches, nausea, bloated, weight gain (rapid and endless) insomnia, mood swing and extreme anger, zero sex drive

Apparently the drug tricks your body into going it to early menopause, so when you come off it, your body is so messed up its ridiculous. Some women say metformin helps and zero carb diet but I haven’t heard of anything else or if this is helping anyone?

The weight gain is beyond a joke, I came off the injection about 9-10mths ago and the weight climbs and climbs, regardless of eating low fat, low carb, exercising like crazy or not eating at all!!! It becoming so depressing. If I dare eat carbs, my god it piles on even quicker and its all around my bum, thighs, stomach…that hasn’t happened in my life, yet all the women are reporting the exact same thing??? Some say its made your body insulin resistant, so metabolises carbs differently…I don’t know, im really at the end of my rope and life is sucking more and more with every day and zero hope of it stopping!

Please, anyone if you have gone through the same…any bit of advice would help, thanks

OMG the lethargy as well, I feel like ive run the marathon every day and no amount of sleep is ever enough!

Thank you for your story, I went to the doctors after 2 months of being off it cause I was getting all these symptoms and couldn’t shift the climbing weight the usual way I would. I did mention I suspected it was the depo injection, cause the horror all happened from the time I came off but the doctor looked at me like I was insane and what a ridiculous suggestion. So she did bloods to check for thyroid and diabetes.
I went back for the results and all clear, she said in short that it was my `lifestyle’ so pretty much im a pig, go on a diet cause im fooling myself its something else! I was so upset that I never went back.

Its only several months down the line that, now I cant cope and nothing has changed, that I started doing research and have found its the bloody injection and im in the same boat as thousands of other women who have come off depo. I was so relieved that I wasn’t alone and it wasn’t in my head…but its the weight more than anything cause even after pregnancy, I followed the same as I always have and lost all the weight I had gained. But this, this is a whole different beast and its like nothing can beat it.

I refuse to buy a whole new wardrobe, I feel so uncomfortable, lost all joy in everything…its actually wrecking my life!

I was on it for four years after my son was born, he’s now 22. It’s evil and should be banned. I didn’t notice the side effects creeping up over the years so didn’t make the association until I came off it and so many issues started getting better…
