An article posted in some of the - generally styled - FB keto groups, “How calorie-focused thinking about obesity and related diseases my mislead and harm public health. An alternative.” by Sean C. Lucan and James J. DiNicolantonio, published 11/24/2014 in Public Health Nutrition (18)4, online. https://doi.org/10.1017/S1368980014002559 (click on the Adobe symbol for a full-text .pdf)

I found this to be a piece of research that is readable (!), accessible by mere mortals, with a hefty 4-page References section, giving lots of research for further reading. It looks and - and puts to rest - the wobbling, but still official notion that supports “Prevailing thinking about obesity and related diseases holds that quantifying calories should be a principal concern and target for intervention.” If you have moments when you wonder about that, when you want to really get inside this to better understand it, explain it to yourself, and discuss it with folks who are interested in the ketogenic diet, but are terrified by the fat involved … this is a must-read. It lays out the argument clearly, supports its critique of the CICO’s claims, and, basically, politely lays waste to it, making it quite clear what is meant by ‘calories don’t count’ and why not.
