I know now why the Americans on this forum advise eating grass fed butter. Woolworths in Australia have just changed their home brand butter to imported butter from America it is not as nice as Australian butter because the cows are fed on grain. I wrote to Woolworths giving them some feedback. They replied explaining how cows feed differently in America and gave me a $10 gift voucher. I won’t spend it on their butter though. They said something about having supply issues but the dairy market in Australia is massive so i don’t know why they are importing it.
American butter
Not sure why they would import butter either but for what it’s worth I found out something recently.
When beef or butter is labeled grass-fed, the cattle only have to have fed on grass at least part of their life. But for it to be labeled grass-fed and grass finished, it is required they be fed on grass their entire life.
So I looked around and found grass-fed and finished ground beef locally. It’s 93% fat free and it’s the most delicious ground beef I’ve ever had. Even if I pre cook some in advance it tastes great right out of the refrigerator for 2 or 3 days. I don’t even bother warming it up and it’s delicious.
That’s interesting i have not seen grass fed and grass finished butter or beef. I’ll look out for some when I’m shopping. I usually look for the cheapest!
