Am I stalling?

#1

Hey everyone. So I started the keto August 2nd and as of today I have lost a total of 21 pounds.

My issue is that starting October 1, I have been stalling. I only lost about .5-1 pound. I only eat once a day and in the morning I will have coffee with heavy whipping cream and MCT oil. And I do occasionally snack on cheese mid day. Could it be the cheese?? I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I just feel like I should be losing weight fast. I’m 5’5 and 199 pounds. I shouldn’t be stalling?

Because I am new to keto…is there a reason you are only eating once a day? Why not eat more often? My only suggestion would be to switch things up a little, if what you’re doing is not working. As I said I’m new to this but it seems with any way of eating, our bodies can easily adapt, and change every now and then can get weight loss going again. I doubt cheese itself is the reason for the stall unless it is in huge quantities and/or really throwing your macros off. Do you track macros?

Welcome to the keto world! Well I read that you should eat till your full. And I first started off with 3 meals a day but I noticed I was stalling and then decided to only eat once a day because I seemed to be full throughout the day(which is shocking since I used to eat a lot). The coffee also keeps me full. I do keep track of macros and hidden carbs. I just don’t know exactly what it could be.

Like I said I occasionally snack a lot of cheese. Especially string cheese (yum) but I have no idea :frowning: October is a stalling month for me.

Weight loss is rarely linear… it will come and go in fits and starts…we may all want to lose 2 pounds per week but unfortunately our bodies don’t always want to let us.

OMAD is generally considered a great tool for maintenance but not for fat loss. I think it can work beautifully for some people, but if it’s not working for you then you could try mixing it up a bit. Can you try to fit in a meal (instead of the cheese snack) on a few days?
If you haven’t yet, listen to the Megan Ramos episode of 2KD. She talks a lot about combining fasting days with feasting days and the importance of variety.

The other way to think about it is that if you’re eating until full, then you’re getting what you need and your body will tap into your fat stores as it needs to (but it won’t be a straight line). Are you taking measurements? Is it possible that you’re losing fat and doing some nice recomposition (which wouldn’t show up on the scale)?

It sounds like you might already be aware, but dairy does stall a lot of people :frowning:

Thank you guys for the replies! I’m gonna try switching up the snacking/cheese for a small meal instead. Maybe eggs? Also one thing I forgot to state is water. I probably drink around 4-5 cups a day :((( I’m thinking that could be something too?? And I don’t work out so i need to incorporate the gym also now maybe?

Only add exercise if you enjoy it. There are many benefits to exercise, but exercise for weight-management can be very dispiriting, especially if you don’t currently have a routine.

@that_fat_guy Thanks that is something I have not learned about yet. If one weren’t trying to lose weight…is there still benefit to eating less often?

Got it thank you for the resource!

You are stalling because that’s normal.
Within the first 1-3 weeks we drop water weight, held by the glycogen in our fat cells.
Between weeks 3-8 or until fat adapted, you can expect to stall.
Your body is still learning to use the ketones you are producing. You literally have no fuel until you are adapted. And that can take even longer if you have considerable metabolic damage.
