Am I keto or am i low carb?

Woo hoooo! I’m sure you’ll be experiencing some of Ginger’s superpowers within hours or days of incorporating into your routine. And though the fat recomposition below the belly button is definitely slow, it’s steady. Remember to wash the capsules down with plenty of water, or during a meal with a few sips of something, so it doesn’t dissolve in the throat or esophagus - which is pretty burny and not fun (except if one has a chest cold, lol).

…Cortisol levels can vary depending on stress levels and stress management routines - I have found that just two capsules of day of Ginger brought significant help for my non-obese body mass - others might do better with double that, etc.

Thanks for the information about Ginger. I’ve been reading about it and just ordered those capsules. I love to use a lot of ginger in my cooking and to make tea with. I never thought about it possibly having health benefits.

I use it a lot and I knew it was good for me, but I didn’t realise how much !

@SlowBurnMary

Thanks for your help. When I was a teenager, my mom tried some alternative therapies for treating my colds, cayenne pepper capsules. I learned about drinking a lot of water with those to make sure they didn’t dissolve in my throat!

Also, do you take ginger with lots of water when you’re fasting? Or do you stick to taking them with meals?

Ludmila, have you tried intermittent fasting with zero calories of input on fasting days?

You mention every other day of 500 calories of input as something you’ve done before. I’m not sure that’s fasting the same way as zero input would be. Calorie restriction and fasting are two different things, quite different if you ask Dr. Fung.

I also wondered about your plant based diet. Are you eating things that are suggested to mess with hormones? Soy is one of those things. (You may not agree with the concept that some foods like that make a difference, we’re all entitled to our opinions. And while I like the thought of a plant based diet, I’ve not been able to reconcile plant based and keto without soy and still get what seems like good nutrition. FWIW, my wife has a nasty allergic reaction to many soy products. It just doesn’t work here.)

Just something that came to mind…

yes, i did zero calorie fasting, i’ve done all kinds of IF protocols. the way i did the 500 calorie was eating pretty much nothing all day, and then 500 calorie dinner. it was really almost 24 hr zero fast. which is one
of the fasting protocols outlined in dr. fung’s book. except i did that before his book came out. i’ve also done 36 hr fasting protocol, 16:8, 20:4 and anything in between. even a few extended fasts (longest was 90 hrs). Any kind of fasting is great.

as for plant diet - i’m not strictly plant based, i do eat fish and eggs. so no problem getting protein. and i do stay away from soy.

That’s interesting, Ludmila.

Something else that came to mind, have you tried what basically amounts to very low carb / high protein / low fat diet? It’s not something that a person would want to remain doing for long periods of time but I have heard of that as one way to get the body to dump some more fat. (There’s a term for it that I can’t remember as I type this.) I heard Dr. Ted Naiman talking about it not too long ago.

You’re welcome! Yikes with cayenne pepper magic!

Yes, I take the Ginger when on IF - as seems to me its insulin reduction impact cancels out the effects of its miniscule carbs. In my two months of experimenting thus far, my progress has just rolled on, and improved in the belly area.

I take it in the morning w/ my fatty coffee, and again later in the day/eve.

Today I just started to experiment with two capsules in the morning - because I had a slight headache (due to having had two squares of bittersweet chocolate last night as part of my OMAD supper w/ wine…it confirmed that I have to stick w/ one square lol) and the Ginger cleared the headache within about a half hour. Tonight I’ll take another two more. That totals 2.2 grams of Ginger and 2 carbs - and that’s my new routine.

But I worked up to it gradually so I could know its exact effects on me… :herb:

You’re very welcome Melis! Yes, Ginger goes back in Ayurveda & Chinese medicine for thousands of years. The old fashioned way to make ginger pills is to get Ginger powder and add some fresh Ginger juice or tea to it and shape into little balls and dry them and then take several per dose. That’s in Vasant Lad’s book The Yoga Of Herbs. Someday I’m gonna make my own

I just started doubling my dosage, as it feels so beneficial - a total of 2.2 grams per day, two capsules twice a day. There’s a controlled study out there that shows that up to 3-3.5 grams can be taken daily with good results - but it’s too much, too drying, at around 4 grams. :herb:
