Almost 3 weeks in and I have no appetite

(Kathy Timmons) #1

I have had no appetite since day 1. I love it. I have lost 8.5 lbs. I haven’t lost in the last few days but my Pants aren’t as tight and my Husband thinks my face is thinner. I can go easily with just 1 meal but I am trying to make it 2 since I am so new. I think it would be so easy to fast for a day or 2. When will I be able to fast. I love the diet and can easily see it as a way of life. I didn’t buy any sticks or meter because I am going to stay on this because I love the feeling of not being constantly hungry. So, I don’t think it matters how long it takes to get adapted.
I am not full of energy like people say will happen when adapted.
I am using MFP and have been keeping my carbs below 20. I add butter to everything.
I drink the bulletproof coffee every morning with butter and coco oil and water the rest of the day.
Should I wait to drink my coffee for a few hours after waking? I usually have it first thing and then eat 3-4 hours later.

Congrats Kathy!

It often gets harder at about this stage, but it doesn’t for everyone. I lost over 10 pounds a month for 11 consecutive months, but I was pretty focused.

I’d recommend easing into fasting. 3 weeks is pretty quick to be fully fat adapted, but if you can fast 24 or 36 hours without much hunger, I’d say you are good to go!

I do a 48 hour fast most weeks…sometimes 2. Sometimes my body revolts, but usually it is pretty easy after the first day or so.

Best of luck with your new Way Of Eating!
Stan

Welcome  Isn’t the lack of hunger rather incredible?

I’m so glad you’re having a good experience. One of the biggest takeaways of this whole way of life (for me) has been learning to trust myself. For decades I’ve been ignoring my body signals, trying to do what is “right” according to medical and nutritional guidance, and failing over and over. I don’t know if you have a similar story, but I’ve found that it is remarkably difficult to listen to, and trust, the signals my body is giving me.

All of this to say… if you’re not hungry… I’d trust it  You can certainly ease into this whole thing; maybe try a 20 hour fast this week, a 24 the next, then a 36, then a 48? Through it, all, listen to your body! Be prepared to break early if you are struggling, and always carry or have access to something that you can break your fast with since you don’t know your own reactions yet. Don’t beat yourself up if this happens- you’re practicing listening to your body, remember?

Also, have you heard of fat fasting? This might be a great way to transition to full (water) fasting.

Again, welcome. And congrats on your success!

Hi Stephanie,
Yes, I have had many, many failures over the years on a wide variety of diets. And always hungry. I guess I don’t know how to listen to my body. It will definitely take practice!
I have read on some posts about fat fasting but I don’t know what it is exactly. I don’t have any books and have just read and listened to everything I can online. I am retired and living in the mountains of central Mexico, from Nashville, TN, and I can order anything but it will take 6 weeks or so to get here. So, I haven’t even ordered anything! I am so happy with how it is going so far and I am learning from people that have had success.

Drink the coffee whenever it works for you. Try it both ways (in the morning, then wait for 3-4 hours) and see what happens. One caution is that with some people if they wait for a few hours they develop a hunger, which drives them to snack or a larger lunch.

As stated above, try it both ways an see how it works best for you.

I’m so glad you’ve had a good experience so far!

Here is a generally decent link. I should mention that I’ve not DONE a fat fast myself, but I’ve heard from others (here and elsewhere) who have had good results. If you search this forum, there are plenty of people who have talked about their experiences!

Thanks for the article. Could you just have several cups of bulletproof coffee with butter and coconut oil during the day, too? It sounds interesting. You still can have as much water as you want, too can’t you? I love my water.

Yep! All of that would work. And NEVER stop drinking water

What happened for me was that one Friday morning I decided to leave my breakfast (that I brought to work to snack on) until I was really hungry. I ended up fasting until nearly 10am on Sunday morning as my first EF and only ate because I was ‘bored’ and my mouth was missing the foodie texture and chewing.

I bought Ketostix, but they were practically useless for me. I wish I’d saved the £5 and bought more bacon instead.

It is a fantastic feeling. I now go on 3-4 hour drives (infrequently) without feeling like I need to stuff a carrier bag full of sweets, sandwiches and milk to snack on during the drive.

If you use the same password on MFP / Your Under Armour account that you use elsewhere - CHANGE THE PASSWORD ON THOSE OTHER SERVICES to something unique, as Under Armour got hacked.

I can definitely recomment LastPass (www.lastpass.com) as a decent password manager. Other Password Managers are available.

I’ve even snacked on butter straight out of the fridge, with nuts pushed into it

What happened for me was, that I started drinking it later an later in the day until eventually I started taking them home and drinking them on the way home. Now, I don’t bother with a BPC or Keto coffee at all.

What happened for me might not happen for you. YMMV

Kathy, Monitor your progress daily. You’ll learn what works and what doesn’t pretty quickly.

I happen to tolerate leafy greens in large amounts. YMMV

So, I have a big salad most days, and it is filling and satiating, IF… I don’t cheat myself on Vinaigrette and such. About 4 hours later, I try to get in some protein and fat, but often am still pretty satisfied from my first meal. So instead of a 4 hour eating window, it looks like more like OMAD some days. (One Meal A Day)

Go at it like you’re killing snakes, and you’ll have success. DO NOT CHEAT, and you’ll build a head of steam, and feel SOOOO GOOD, that it will help you through the inevitable stalls.

Tweaks help too. Lots of Low Carb-ing tweaks are out there.

Go Get’em Tiger!
