Hey have anybody ever tried this almond butter spread? It’s kind of like peanut butter. My kids brought me along with some Aldi zero carb bread. What do you guys think about this?
Almond butter
@mtncntrykid It doesn’t have wheat and soy. It just is produced in a factory that processes those foods so they can’t 100% guarantee it doesn’t have those major allergens.
It does however have some added sugar Karla but it should be okay to eat as long as you’re accounting for those carbs. You can easily get almond butter with just almonds and salt next time for lower carbs but it separates unlike the “no stir” type you have which won’t separate.
I never could understand why they have to add sugar to products other than to make it taste better and keep you addicted, maybe acts as a preservative e.g. bacon?
The absence of that 1 or three etc. grams of added sugar per serving could have substantial effect on your health for the better?
Footnotes:
I think sugar should be listed as a subdivision of a carbohydrate and totaled together.
Other things could be used as preservatives besides sugar but great if your a sugar dealer it serves a two fold purpose; to keep you addicted and preserve shelf life?
The macros are fine, but I think you’re better off in pretty much every way with 100% almond butter, no additives. Depends on what your goals are. I personally can’t keep almond butter of any kind in my house–or any nut butter–because I will eat the jar in at most 2 sittings. I personally avoid all almonds now due to oxalates… so all things to consider. If all you care about is how many carbs are in it, then you’re fine with this.
Second ingredient cane sugar… I wouldn’t, even in small amounts, not that I can do small amounts of nut butter, so no, really wouldn’t.
IMO … the only ingredient in a Nut Butter… should be the Ground up Nut … If you have a CostCo membership i know they have one w/ 2 Net Carbs… and nothing but ground almonds .
The thing w/ Almond or Peanut butter though… for Me… is i wont stop eating it … or at least wont just eat 2 Tbs at a time…thats for sure. Thus i probably shouldnt buy it… haha . Also… if i have Celery in the house… i will use it to eat half the jar of the Peanut butter… but thats ok right ?.. i mean im eating Celery ?.. hehe .
For me at least… its one of those foods thats hard to stop eating .
It’s fine. Some will have the issue with Cane Sugar being listed but my view is… SO? My PB is an all natural one and the only ingredients listed are Peanuts, and salt. I’ve still got 7g carbs, 3 fiber, and 2g sugars. Seem about the same to me. Gotta take the whole thing into context. The WORD Cane Sugar doesn’t make me afraid, the net carbs I’m left with does.
