carnivore

I looked at my notes. It seemes I had 3 pounds of pork chuck in 2 days. Wow. Now I feel like having a bit less meaty days. We will see. I surely will have a little pork, bacon and probably turkey too.
Alvaro is planning to cook the rabbit in the weekend. It’s not a very small one :slight_smile:I plan to start with a lean carnivore in the beginning of May and then probably will experiment with some fatty things first approach… No idea how I will eat in the remaining 2 days, I am so, so, so full at the moment, can’t think about eating. Probably a little this, a little that. I don’t desire anything but again, I am full. (Feeling full. I didn’t eat in 14 hours and even then only a little but I ate much the day before.)

Work stress building but it is handleable. I have a mandated 3rd COVID vacc due by mid-May. But rules are changing and mandates are being dropped in other areas. I’ll wait until the deadline.

A few eating aberrations with family events that have seen a slip back to keto on 3 occasions in the past 2 weeks. Some joint soreness flare up.

Saw the specialist joint doctor this week past. He says he has seen many people with adverse vaccine reactions and subsequent chronic inflammation but he hasn’t seen any with COVID infection leftover joint pain. So, in his field there has been no observed long COVID. But long term cases of painful joint disease due to the vaccination. That said, these are small numbers of people when compared to the general population. So, we’re focussing at the edges of the data curves. He said he is surprised at my recovery and more so that the drugs he has me on have not worsened any metabolic disease.

@Karen18
Your review on your medical issues with your retirement and job should be kinda getting close to an ansewr for you? I think it has been a bit, not sure on time but when do you kinda expect an answer on that? I got fingers and toes crossed for you!!

@Ketodaisy
Sorry on those sleep issues. ugh. but eating those flanken ribs had to put a smile on your face :slight_smile: yum

---------------not tons of eating yesterday. I made a cup of taco meat mistake cause I made it for family and put it up in fridge for later but it called me. The taste was great, my tummy said, go get a tums and fast HA That took me off more food for the day. I had 3 small leftover fatty pork ribs, 6 slices salalmi.

and I lost another lb. on the scale. I don’t know what it is about April but darn, 3 lbs? I haven’t lost in so long that I feel like it ain’t real but darn it is and I will take it. Probaby won’t lose an ounce for the next months but I don’t care. Eat fab, eventually the lbs. drop off at their own time and feeling good…ok that is a lifestyle I can handle.

busy busy day. got some steaks defrosting when I get home and will hound down one and enjoy and then see what else I want,

ZC strong guys, April is almost over…and MAY is coming at us!!

Any good May titles? Meaty May. My Meat May? any one got any good ones?

#364

I don’t even care about Covid anymore but we probably have very few cases now. And I am a hermit.

Alvaro’s brother has multiple sick people around him and uses masks all the time at work and he had enough, poor boy (he kinda wishes for Covid now, just to get over it). He had all the vaccines as early as possible due to his work. IDK what exactly he does but something healthcare related so mandatory everything is there, he has a covid test a day…

I have my 3rd vaccine since autumn? But that’s it for a long time. I don’t need the 4th.

I start to get hungry though so I probably will have lunch. Yum. Photos will come.

#365

Yay congrats! Meanwhile I can’t weigh myself as I forget. I am a zombie in the morning and start with drinking and still don’t remember… Now I only had drinks, it’s something, I weigh myself with clothes and even cloth around my ankle, Alvaro’s Mom gave me some to use now that it’s not swollen anymore but it’s not well yet and a misstep and it gets painful…
77kg. So I am still 75kg naked in the morning. Why am I not surprised?

But I have high hopes for May :smiley:
Not necessarily fat-loss wise but why not that too? :slight_smile: It helps me feeling great changes are coming and as I decided, 2022 is the year when I fly up and do things I wanted but couldn’t.

#366

OMAD. 2 baked beef ribs for dinner.

#367

I admire your simplicity… Maybe I will try to have less than 5 course meals at some point. Not every day, that would be impossible for me…
(I surely had such once before but usually not on OMAD and that’s different. A tiny meal doesn’t always have several courses even if it’s mine.)

But maybe I shouldn’t sabotage my woe and OMAD (that I don’t have at the moment, I relax until it’s May and eat lunch when I am a bit hungry)… I need my variety and that means eating several different things every day. And not using very complex dishes. They are nice too but not enough for me.

I ate first and made a shot later (and ate more) so I only can show this:

We had little bacon covered pork thigh anyway (Alvaro ate from it too and he will have turkey tomorrow. it seems his meat avoidance wasn’t such a serious idea)… But I didn’t touch the turkey yet, I was hungry but just for a little and I had my eggs (mostly with bacon but I can’t even eat a small meal without 3 different egg dishes).

How about ‘May I have some meat, please?’

I’m not so good at thinking of titles but thats my suggestion lol🤣

@Fangs not sure where we are on the time line for the IHR app. I think its been about 3 weeks 9r so which would be 21 days approx. I have to wait up to 65 working days :roll_eyes:

4 hours sleep last night, just couldn’t get off to sleep. Argggh always happens when I know I am up at silly o’clock for work and I don’t really think I was thinking work or getting any outward anxiety but probably a bit of subconscious anxiety maybe.

No stair runs this morning, I had already made up my mind yesterday that I wouldn’t do ny before work today. Went in for a 6am start and was able to leave at 2pm although it was 2.30 by time I got to my car as I got waylaid chatting before leaving! Note to self ~ leave 10 mins early to pre-empt people wanting to chat hahaha
Perhaps I should go in for 6am and start walking out at 6.15am :laughing:

Brunch at gone midday was a hard boiled egg and a small packet of cooked sliced chicken sauted in butter maybe about 50g, wasn’t much.

Arrived home at 3pm and donned the pj’s and cooked up 7 rashers of unsmoked dry cured bacon. Lovely, found a decent bit of bacon which wasn’t overly salty. It was so nice I cooked up the remaining 9 rashers and ate those too.

Then about 2 hours later cooked 2 pork chops ate them and cooked the remaining 2 and ate them too … terri ly this tired related hunger. Not having anything else, felt a bit icky as I was stuffing down the final chop so I actually left about a third of it.

@Shinita I di hope the suggestions work for you, u fortunately I made the wrong decision last night and really should have taken a couple of herbal sleep tabs just to knock me out initially. I just hate having to resort to them so the packet lasts a long long time.

Well 8 have managed to get through the mo th with one trip to The Company Shop and without any cheese. Tomorrow is going to be my May meat shop as its my son in laws 30th birthday on Saturday and I will be helping my daughter get all the party stuff ready then to come home and change. Its a Peeky Blinders theme so we have to dress up 1920’s style. And Sunday we are taking my son out for a trip to a cheese fayre …my daughters idea. Now will I be able to get through the day without indulging in a morsel of cheese, it might just break me lol! Making no promises hahaha I’ve done really well almost 6 weeks without i believe!

I could nap a bit after lunch, that was nice. I just climbed into Alvaro’s bed, he has MANY blankets on top of each other (I would lose all but 1 if I am lucky in hours :smiley: I have one very warm blanket) and this warmth and heaviness helps me to sleep. And the noises from Alvaro’s computer. A full belly helps, I rarely even try without eating first…
So I feel more alive now. Not perfect, daytime naps only can do that much but I don’t almost fall asleep or feel miserable now.

In the end I had another significantly over 1 pound of meat day (and a significant amount was bacon, most of it was turkey though). I have these more often lately. I got bored of it way quicker before. This is good, it’s horrible not wanting either egg and meat, that’s trouble even if I allow anything else. That is proper food to me. I can add a tiny this and that but not soooo much. I could pull off a few days differently, maybe… But it would be tricky and not so good.
Of course I very nearly always can eat eggs in some form but they aren’t enough even when I eat many and when I am bored of them, I can’t eat so many without making them into sweets.
Eggs and meat, that’s so perfect when I have no problems with them. And this occasional problem seems to have diminishing chances. But it was long ago I tried proper carnivore for a while.
We will see :slight_smile: I am willing to start with some generous, eggs/meat/processed stuff/dairy/condiments style but without any really extra (condiments are extra but many carnivores use them, they are really tiny. I don’t depend on them sooo much but they have their uses here and there). I have such a nice variety if I just use eggs, meat and little dairy. I am just not sure if I lose my appetite too much then, it happened before. Variety isn’t everything, I have those odd times when I am hungry and don’t want anything I have. Maybe I will just wait then. Or wait before, I can’t wait when hungry. I plan to sit down to eat when I have a proper hunger, appetite and need for food. Too bad they don’t typically align but it’s better if I wait more.

Cheese prices obviously went up in the last months and they weren’t stable before either but nothing serious. I hope they won’t go crazy, Alvaro loves them very much and already consider his intake modest.

Pretty, pretty bacon, @Karen18 :smiley: Not like the shriveled blur on my plate… Oh, gastrophotography. It’s hard for me. Whatever, it is really not my goal to be great at it, my tasty food deserves better though.
I think i will go out to the sunshine with my plates again. If there will be some. Today we had it for a while but the weather is a tad cold, we heated a bit.

#370

May the meat be with you.

(Robin) #371

Yes! I was trying to think of a pun on that phrase. Good for you!

(Daisy) #372

Bone broth jello, eggs and bacon, and a ribeye for today’s omad. I got a half decent nights sleep last night, so I definitely think my hypothesis was correct. I returned the unopened case of San pellegrino today and it’s another thing permanently on the no list.

#373

May the fore rib be with you.

May be time to carnivore?

May not eat carbs.

HbA1c is the test for oxidised red blood cells. In diabetic people because the blood glucose is high and insulin is high, there is a higher HbA1c blood result.

My HbA1c result is higher than I would like at 5.8%. But that is down from 6.0% in January. When I was keto it was 5.6%. I notice on carnivore my fasting blood glucose is often high, > 6.0 mol/L, tested in the morning after waking. That could be a mix of dawn effect and glucose sparing.

Unfortunately my fasting blood insulin has gone from 9 before the pandemic, to 12 before being treated with corticosteroids, to 17 on the test last week. That is a trend I seek to reverse. It is, in part, medication induced, as long term prednisone can cause diabetes.

I think HbA1c can be higher in carnivores because the circulating red blood cells live for longer in the system. And just by living for longer they become more oxidised, which may result in a higher HbA1c.

My specialist has now taken me off cortisone that was being used against pain and inflammation in multiple joints, but I remain on hydroxychloroquine. I look forward to future blood tests when I am medication free. In general joint pain is under control and flare ups are reduced. More work to do.

(Judy Thompson) #375

@FrankoBear Glad you’re off the steroids, I know they raise blood sugar. And on ZC I’ve been looking forward to my next a1c, whenever that would be. With my whole family having been diabetic I’ve been fortunate, knock on wood. Hopefully my glucose (was at a high of 130 at one time) and a1c are normal now.
@fangs way to go! With just 10 lbs to go this is a great time for your body to decide to shed it - hope it continues but whether or not, it will eventually.
@Shinita that ankle is still hurting! Hope it clears up soon.
We went to the dentist, hubby had bridge work, which will delay our trip back to Texas, which has upsides and downsides :slight_smile: When we got home I ate one of the scotch eggs, then took off for the army post to shop.
Stopped off in veggies for the ONE he eats, then to meat! They have great meat prices, got a tenderloin which I’ll cut into thick filets, 2 lbs grassfed hamburger, a pork shoulder roast and 2 cornish hens. Should be a good week.
I made him a soft lunch for his teeth and shared ½ lb of the grassfed burger, raw, with the puppy. Delicious but caused some cramping on the way through - maybe should at least sear it.
@Karen18 your early schedule is messing up your sleep. You should probably get that retirement!

#376

@Karen18
65 working days…omg that drags it out longer too :slight_smile: Seems time is going fast but for your retirement verdict it ain’t moving fast enough for you I am sure!!

Peaky Blinders, love that show and that theme would be wild. so cool.

@Shinita
wow I am so polar opposite. I hate blankets on me. I hate weight on me for sleeping. I am one to go to bed with only a light sheet and if winter and cold, I wear heavy sweat pants and thick sweatshirt cause in the end, less on me the better. So many love that ‘blanket weight’ on them for sleeping, wonder why that is? when I can’t stand anything on me mostly. I always fall into the opposite category for most people HA who knows :slight_smile:

wanting variety was super normal when I started carnivore. It took me about a year to start to whittle down to wanting literally only certain meats I adored. Became just by time on plan a very mono eater, which I find suits me to a T. I was a variety gal and never thought I could change, but I did as most carnivores do thru time. interesting.

@Ketodaisy
interesting on the San Pell. I am not a fancy water bubble or not type person. My regular ol’ well water is what I always want. I was never a fan of San Pell cause I tried it to and dumped it fast. very interesting, should see how ya do now :slight_smile: beauty food pics as usual from you!!

@FrankoBear
very true red blood cells cycle longer thru the body with carnivores.
some interesting info in your post and OFF meds it will show more reality numbers etc. for you of course. Glad you are weaning off stuff and doing as well as you are with what you were facing.

I love May the Meat Force be with you? I think we got a winner!!

@JJFiddle
ow, sorry on hubby’s dentist work. we all know dentist work sucks rocks!!

cornish hens. yum. Nothing like that little sucker all to yourself and cooked all delish. I miss my tenderloins, our price went up VERY high and they are just off my eat list. Used to buy in bulk slab and cut too and it made it high but reasonable still for my wallet but darn, with the increase, I just can’t go there much. So happy ya hit a great price!! eat up and enjoy!!

-------------------wow the work yesterday was brutal. mom’s big house clean out was tough in that we got rid of furniture and so much and STILL need another big cubic yard truck to clean out more. People acquire SO much ya know but that furniture in the truck just took up so much space ya know…ugh. Allergies flared with dust…sciatic nerve leg was a terror as I carried heavy crap to help the workers to get the house crap handled. Came home like a pretzel.

said they would come between 9-11 with truck, they came at 2. stuck at another job. shoot me. Then hubby was starving finally and ran up to store and got chicken wings. breaded for him, naked for me. I could only eat 3 little wings. Just so much emotion throwing out stuff and alot of heavy work to boot I couldn’t eat.

got home not hungry still, still wired up ya know. later I ate 2 pork chops and called it a day.

have to hire another cleanout big truck for another day.

today is I don’t know. don’t have anything defrosted. kinda don’t care ya know. which is a wonderful perk to carnivore. food draw is so low at times which is something I never had before and it is a calm I don’t care about food, not a forced dieting type pretend factor from the ol’ dieting crazy times :slight_smile:

have to run and get a prescrip for the dog at pharmacy SO I will hit grocery store next to it and buy some meat, but nothing is calling my name at all so will be interesting to see what I come home with to eat LOL

just chillax’ing thru today. between the clogged head and the sciatic nerve thing I am kinda ‘just over it’ but doing zc ok!!!

I loved May the Meat Force be with you? for May. I need a Meat Force! May to happen for me!! cool

My, how things change so quickly. (sigh)

So, had a day off Wednesday. Took dinner over to my inlaws around 2pm. I was surprised that my Mil was walking around without her cane, and feeling so well after being in the ER two days eariler with a nasty UTI. I stayed and visited for a couple hours. She was so alert, and we talked and laughed for a couple hours. I left thinking, “WOW…Mom is doing fantastic!” I even called my husband and told him how great she was doing. 4 hours later, we got a call that she’d just had a bad stroke, and the ambulance was at the house. Since we were already in the car, we high tailed it over. Mom couldn’t talk, swallow, and her left side (head, face, arm)- she had no control over.

They did a C T scan, and really couldn’t tell much. Though, they were sure it’s an Ischemic stroke. She has severe dysphagia and can’t talk well at all. Due to multiple other issues, they say they cannot install a feeding tube. So, they are doing a swallow study this morning. If she doesn’t not improve, they are saying they will put her in hospice care. Dad is devastated. We are all devastated. Still hoping and praying she will fight through this. Dependng on how this study goes, Its either going to be a good day, or a very bad day.

Either way, I’m finding OMAD and carnivore extremely calming.

(Karen) #378

@SecondBreakfast . Oh my Lord what day for you :pray::pray: how lovely that you were able to spend the time with your Mil before the Stroke, I am sure you will cherish that memory of chatting and laughing together. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband and Mil. Xxx

(Karen) #379

@Fangs the clear out is just a horrible time, I remember it well with my mums house. My sister and I did the clear out together. We had a guy come to give us a cost on clearing out for us, he said to call him back when we had decided what we were going to keep and asked how long we were down there to sort through. When we said a week he said never in a month of Sundays will we do it in a week (my mum was a bit of a hoarder … we spent every day from 6am till midnight doing it. The days were filled with clearing the rubbish to the skip and charity shops and the evenings were sorting through mum and dads personal items. We spent the week laughing and crying over the memories, very emotional. Then I hired a van and went back down when the house sold and moved the remaining furniture, 3 van loads to charity, numerous trips to the skip with tatty cheap furniture and 3 van trips back to my place with the good stuff. My house was over an hour and half away so a 3 hour round trip! Then I went back down to clean it. Exhausting, yes I know where you are coming from, its more when you stop, the emotional and physical exhaustion sets in and smacks you in the face.

I had a pretty decent sleep last night, went to bed fairly early and got up fairly early as I wanted to do my big shop this morning. Gas man coming sometime between 12 & 6 to service my boiler.

Went to The Company Shop as planned and spent just under £30.
5kg chicken plain wings
5 big single rump steaks
1 pack of 6 rumps
4 cooked sliced chicken for work
8 pork chops
And a couple of jars of spices to coat my chicken wings.
29 meals @ just over £1 per meal!

Then I needed to go to Lidl for my eggs and some more of that lovely bacon and of course couldn’t pass on the reduced stuff. I try to just buy reduced stuff that is usually on my menu rather than buying the stuff I wouldn’t usually eat just because its reduced. I spent just under £28
3 x 500g pks of chicken mince
Pk of 2 beef burgers
Pk of 4 beef burgers
1 x 800g pk pork mince
XXL pork loin steaks (8 in pk)
24 beef meatballs
2 pks of bacon
24 very large eggs

Then to Pound Stertchers for the cleaning essentials as 50% off the total basket deal is still on.

Returned home and portion bagged the wings, pork chops and 6pk of steaks

Great productive day so far :wink:

So I had 2 of the 4pk of beef burgers and will eat the remaining 2 later. They were lovely. The key is to keep it very rare me thinks :smiley:

Hahah I should have done a before and after pic of the freezer. I was just thinking yesterday that it was the emptiest I had seen it in a long time … not now. Just had another look … hahaha its like looking at the flowers in my garden, gives me the same happiness vibes lol I was going to go back and pick up some more of the multi packs of rump steaks because they were actually a lot less at the checkout than I was expecting. They were meant to be half the marked price but were 75% off! Very annoying to get all the way through the checkout before that was revealed haha. Anyway having taken another look inside my freezer I don’t really have any space left! Perhaps next month i will take all the single portion meat out of the plastic cartons and put them into bags too then I could get more in! :wink::wink::wink:

Moments or days of sudden clarity are not uncommon right before an event like that! So hard! get your hopes up, then dashed. Hang in there.
