I’m not a doctor, however after a quick google I could not find any carbohydrate value for it, so I would guess that it’s so small as to be of negligible effect. If you’re at all concerned still, just measure your blood glucose & ketones before and after taking it.

I would further conjecture that after a while on Keto your hormones may regulate better and your acne may clear up, negating the need for medicines.

From my own personal experience I could also recommend Tea Tree Oil for spots as it has anti-bacterial properties which can help to clear up spots.

Your dr can recommend a med, and you can’t force them to order meds they don’t think are appropriate and safe for you, but likewise they can’t make you take anything. I’m not saying your Dr is wrong, but acne isn’t a serious medical condition (it might be a big deal emotionally, but a serious case of acne won’t land you in the hospital ). I wouldn’t start a new med till you’re firmly adjusted to keto (about a month at least). Aldactone is a diuretic (makes you pee more) and also affects your sodium and potassium levels. I’m sure you won’t be taking huge doses, but still. Just something to consider, a delay in treatment probably won’t hurt you, unless your acne is a symptom of an underlying issue like liver disease.

Hello Sarah I’m in keto since November 2017 so I think I’m adapted ! And my levels are good however not losing weight … my acne are more since I started keto my hormonal doctor he was happy that I’m doing keto maybe he s the only one in my country was happy that I’m doing keto ! When he told me u have to take aldactone the first thing I asked him abt if it ll interfer with my keto he said no! And I asked him if I’m gonna gain weight with the aldactone and he said no maybe I’ll lose weight ! But maybe I’ll have a small change with my cycle ! But I’m still confused if to take it or no … I really want to finish with my acne but same time I dnt want to feel bad with the side effects of aldactone (( btw I have hashimotos too ) so I’m googling abt hashimotos and ketosis and Alda tone but nthg helped

I take this medication because of hypertension and hypokalemia (low blood potassium). It has not affected my weight loss. However, since it is a diuretic, you will need to be careful with your electrolytes. I’m not sure I would take it for acne though. This is one medication, I hope to eliminate this year.

Your dr is probably right, that it won’t affect your ability to eat keto at all. My only thought is, unless you are pretty well settled in to keto, metabolically, which usually takes at the very least 4-5weeks, I’d hold off on starting the Aldactone. Aldactone also changes your fluid balance and your electrolytes (especially sodium potassium and magnesium) and since those are often issues in the early stages of keto, I’d hold off on the Aldactone till your body is more stable. Also keto c an really help with acne, so you might be surprised and you may not need meds. All I’m saying is consider waiting a few weeks, if you are new to keto. Give your body time to adjust, and then if you feel ready, go fill the script. That’s my opinion.

Acne is an off label use for the med. Its a weird unintended sidea effect. it works really well for some people though. It’s primarily intended to help with uncontrolled high blood pressure (ie one med just isn’t doing it) in people with fluid balance issues. If you don’t have liver or heart disease, weaning off the med as you lose weight, sounds completely reasonable.
