Airline industry should fund obesity studies

Just saw a short news blip on the aviation industry and seat sizes. Everyone who’s flown in the past decade knows that things have gotten pretty tight on planes. You’d think the airline industry would have a huge interest in the worlds health just from the perspective of obesity. Smaller people equals more seats equals more tickets equals more profits. Just a thought.

I flew to India recently. On the way there, I paid for “economy plus” - still squeezy but better than the return (when I couldn’t upgrade). I’m tall and big but not as big as some I see. I’m so surprised more people don’t end up with deep vein thrombosis. It’s torture for a couple of hours - it’s sadistic on the really long flights.

It was actually a business trip that was the tipping point for me to finally do something about my overall fitness and weight. It was a triple whammy of the cramped airline seating, an enormous amount of standing and walking at my destination (week long trade show / conference at a very large venue) and those horribly honest full length mirrors in the hotel bathrooms which refuse to lie to you like that nice small one above the sink at home.

I had another trip just recently, 25 pounds lighter, which made the flight a little better, but I’m still 6’ 1.5" tall and no matter how much weight I lose, I don’t think I’m going to get much shorter.

@Mnketo46
Just heard this on the radio today as well
Interesting!!
The focus, time, and energy appears to be prioritized elsewhere :roll_eyes:

Curious - we have a long flight coming up. I wonder if ordering a diabetic meal is worth considering (I’m not diabetic but it will be my first international flight since going keto and I’m well aware of what I’ve been served before).

Hahah. Why, when they can charge you more for legroom and seat space? The airline industry could give less of a f*ck about health.

I don’t fly so they won’t be getting any $$ from me. The airport security, cattle chutes, pat downs, they can keep all that. I’ll drive or I’ll stay home.
