Ageing and interleukin-11

Not Keto but I wondered if anyone had heard of this?

Long and long ago it was that I read about interleukins. Seems like it was as far back as the science-fiction I was reading then… I’m not even sure they were really separate…:smile: This is decades and decades ago.

There was talk of using the body’s own immune system response to ‘piggyback’ other stuff on, which in the end would either increase or decrease the effects of our DNA programming, supposedly for net positive results.

There was a good bit of sentiment then that “if we start messing with such deep levels of our ‘programming,’ there could be some really bad consequences, some of which might not be apparent for years.”

Now, in 2024, they probably know better how to avoid that. Not saying there’s no risk, just that with computers, internet connectivity, etc., there’s a much greater bank of available knowledge and a much faster, better ‘hive mind’ to think about such things, and which understands more about them to begin with.

Knock out Interleukin - 11, and less cancer developed in mice - sounds good, so far. If there’s no bad side effects, then great - but there’s a long way to go on that.

From the article: “The drug, a manufactured antibody that attacks interleukin-11, is being trialled in patients with lung fibrosis. This is where the lungs become scarred, making it harder to breathe.”

Thinking back to Covid and the “cytokine storms” that killed a lot of people - the body’s own immune response being its downfall. Well, interleukins are cytokines, and are produced by white blood cells. Interesting stuff.

I thought it was an interesting read. Though I’d like to see some studies of the drug before I’d take it.
