Afternoons- advice, what would you do?

#1

Scenario- doing well on keto- basically maintenance. Follow strict keto ratios. Eat only breakfast and dinner- no snacks. Do drink about 40oz water, 3 cups black coffee, and some salt between meals.

Feel a little tired and not as mentally sharp from around 4pm - (dinner coming at 6ish/breakfast was 7am). I notice that as soon as I eat- like the third bite- my mental clarity comes back. I’m fine the rest of the evening.

I wonder is that 2 hour stress on my metabolism a good thing, which i could see an argument for. Or would I be just as well to take some fat or mct, etc. I’ll probably test it out myself, at some point; but was curious to see if anyone runs into something like this or has any views about it.

Tx.

I hit the wall around then too between lunch at 1:00 and dinner at 6. I’ve made this the time for bulletproof coffee or will have 100 calorie or so snack. When I have to.

Some coconut oil, either in coffee, or in the form of a chocolate fat bomb, or a few macadamia nuts or olives will usually get me over that feeling. I don’t get it all the time, but I do often enough to have a plan for dealing with it. Notice I used “or” not “and”…

Have you tried salt to get over that hurdle?

I use salt bullion cubes, usually two during the day; and they do give me a lift and do satisfy a bit of hunger- but I have been leary to use a 3rd one in this situation. It probably would help. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the replies! :grinning:

Looks like so far the only responses have been for treating it; with energy (or electrolytes).

I know a lot of people advocate eating when your hungry and not eating when your not- which makes sense.

Anybody think that it may be beneficial to endure it a bit- in order to push/train my body to generate more ketones, more efficiently?

I thought I heard some fasting people talk about how it isn’t always easy in the beginning; but does get easier over time. I was wondering if a similar principle may apply here.

Tx, again!

Absolutely. I don’t know specifically for “generating more ketones” but you can push through! :sunglasses: Good luck.

Is there msg in those ?

#9

Yeah- it does.

I’m not keen on that!

I started using them early on- guess I overlooked that.

Do you know of any brands that don’t?

Tx for the suggestion!!

If you do a search for “other names for msg” you’ll discover that there are a dozen names for it…so I think even the natural ones may have it…ie: celery salt.
I wouldn’t have mentioned it except that it is a powerful appetite stimulant, in fact, they feed it to lab rats to fatten them up.

Ay Ay Ay!!!

Thanks for the info- I never heard of that!

Maybe I’ll have to try working in some Sea salt or make of one of those electrolyte drinks, instead.

Thanks again!
