After the new-ness wears off

#1

I’ve noticed since I’ve gotten settled into my keto lifestyle, I don’t really keep up on the food diary (or logging what I eat into an app). I don’t constantly check my ketones and blood glucose to make sure I’m in ketosis. I don’t endlessly research keto on the internet or read the keto books I bought. I don’t listen to keto related podcasts all day. I don’t pop in to this forum on a daily basis to see what the keto community is talking about.

Eating keto is just second nature now and I’m steadily losing weight and getting healthier. Do any of you get tired of constantly talking and thinking of your diet and just go on with your life as normal?

It’s been a year now, and I still get excited as I learn more with each day, each article, each podcast and each post. I even want to start a keto cooking business. After a lifetime of IR and dieting this still looks great to me…like when you realize you don’t have to bang your head on the wall anymore.

I’m not as obsessed as I was for the first 6 months. But I think keeping myself involved in the process helps me maintain momentum.

Yes, this. It’s just how my life is now, I don’t tend to talk about it or seek out info like I used to. I don’t track or even really think about what I eat as I’m so used to living this way. Most of the research I do is just general health & wellness as keto is just there and I know how it works for me.

I never really tracked my food, but I feel it’s HARDER now that my body has adjusted. I pretty much have to fast now to lose or even maintain weight.

Yes, this.

My wife always appreciate when I get to this point (homeostasis on whatever topic I’m enamored with at the time).

When I decide to explore something, I do down the rabbit hole HARD, learn all I can, test it in as many ways as possible, then incorporate it into life, that can be a pretty tumultuous time (I won’t shut up about the subject) but then, once it’s fully integrated, I can drop it pretty hard, I don’t ignore it or “stop it”, I just allow it to become part of habits/routine, life. My wife has learned to hold on for the ride and, eventually, it will smooth out, like you, that’s where we are with keto.

We still chat about it often and discuss responses to various things but, for the most part, our diet has gotten much simpler, our routines have become habit and we love the way the WOE works “long term”. Every now and then someone asks a question and we engage but, we’ve learned to let folks come to us rather than try to evangelize too much.

I hear ya. It becomes your lifestyle, you’re way of living. And once it gets there, most of us have other parts of our life that we move on towards. As we lose weight and move into our new bodies, there is still some excitement and some newness of change happening but it’s not like a new toy anymore.

I check in here most days. But there are times when I don’t check in for a few days when I get busy with other things. I don’t do macros. I don’t log my food. I just have a pretty good idea of what I eat and what I don’t eat and the basic amounts and that’s what I eat. It’s not a challenge anymore, it’s a habit.

I do tend to like chat forums. I get a little lonely for conversation as I tend to spend a lot of time alone. So any civil conversation is something I look forward to. That is more my motivation to be here than actually losing weight… that’s happening anyhow. I check in with other sites too… Facebook, gardening forums, cooking blogs, music websites, woodworking sites, most anything I’m interested in.

When I first started keto 4.5 years ago I became fascinated with the science and I have learned so much now about nutrition and metabolism. I enjoy learning so I still seek out videos and presentations and articles on the web so I can understand more. And maybe use that to help others at some point.

I’ve had the same idea, how to take this to the next level.

Sadly, I wonder if anyone else will listen if you don’t have M.D. etc after your name?

I’m nine months in now and I stopped tracking food or ketones except every once in awhile to make sure I’m still good. But, I still listen to podcasts and things every day. It’s more like therapy for me now rather than needing any info.

I started Keto in July 2017. While some topics are not new, many still are. I love listening to the “Dudes” and the Obesity Code podcasts, and I usually am able to take away a few “pearls of wisdom” with each new episode. The next step in my Keto journey is fasting, and I am slowly incorporating IF into my lifestyle! So KCKO!
