After effects of keto

(Chris) #1

Hey guys quick question

So I decided to get off of keto for the moment as I am feeling a bit dizzy every time I go to the bathroom, I know this might be due to lack of minerals…but when I do decide to start again I will make sure to prepare accordingly…I lasted this run for about three weeks. My question is I just gave it up yesterday and started eating clean and a bit more carbs like a regular diet…but I still get woozy when I urinate. How long till everything balances back to normal for me?

I appreaciate the help

If you think it’s cause by mineral deficiency I think that will depend on what you’re eating…

Hey Jean

Well today just had some toast with avocado, some yogurt, and for lunch brought some tuna along with some left over fruit salad, and saltine crakcers

Magnesium sodium and potassium are the most common imbalances on keto as far as I know. Look up the rda for those and see what’s in the foods you’re eating. Avocado is high in potassium I know.

Do you track your blood pressure? Besides just replenishing your electrolytes, there is a syndrome called Micturition Syncope which is an excessive blood pressure drop during or immediately after urination and can cause dizziness, nausea, fainting. It would be odd but, it could apply in your case. I’ve read symptoms of low electrolytes from over a hundred newer ketoers and yours happens to be new to me at least. That doesn’t mean it still isn’t caused by low electrolytes or dehydration.

Note, I’m not a doctor, just a good Google user providing information.

Hey Jam

I don’t believe so I’m a pretty healthy guy I get up and run 2 miles in the morning and work out in the evening…all this started happeneing after I started the diet and was on it for the three weeks

Replenish your electrolytes then and hopefully that helps. You especially need to pay attention to them and hydration when you exercise. Ketones themselves don’t have a biological process in which they cause dizziness during urination. However, being dehydrated can cause dizziness as well as low electrolytes again. It may be simple coincidence that it happens during urination.

I had it this morning. Very painful headache, nausea and extreme dizziness. Thought I was going to fall off the toilet and puke.

Then in the evening, extremely itchy feet, like screaming itchy. I couldn’t scratch hard enough. Soaked in cool water.

All from an accidental intake of the wrong sweetener this weekend… led to a binge and broke about six weeks of good adherence. Terrifying!!
