After 3 Years Without, My Period Finally Returned!

#1

I started keto in Feb, 2015 and lost my period in April. In June 2015, I was diagnosed with PCOS and later found out that i was in early menopause due to my estradiol being so low. Back to june 2015: I was eating 40 grams of protein/day, like an extended fat fast, because I couldnt get my blood sugar to go down under 110. I’m 5’2" for context. Anyway, eventually I brought my protein intake up to 60-65 grams/day because thats what the keto calculators said to do. Well, it’s been almost 3 years since I lost my period, and 2 days ago, it came! I know that I ovulated, too, because of cervical fluid change and ovulation pain at the exact time when I shouldve, (retrospectively, speaking).
How?
Well, a month ago, I decided to try carnivore. I couldnt follow it exactly because I have a keto food biz (wont mention it because otherwise I’ll be called spam) which involves me tastinf my products, which are made largely of nuts. So I’ve been doing carnivore 3 days a week and nutty carnivore 4 days a week, but in any case, eating 90-115 grams protein/day. Wow! All this time i had been scared of gluconeogenesis. Guess what? Despite my PCOS insulin resistance, my ketones have been high and blood sugar, low. Crazy! So much heartache over nothing.
Best part:
No cramps, no mood swings. At all! I used to have horrific episodes of both every month. Despite my PCOS, my period was always 28 days and never skipped, BUT my PMDD was so bad I tried taking mood stabilizers and even punched my roommate once; my cramps were so bad that my legs would sometimes go numb. This time, literally none of either one. Amazing.

I just wanted to share this for the next person with my story to find. I remember searching tirelessly for my story online and could find nothing, so I dont want anyone else to go through that.

That is great news.
There is a fair amount of info around to say that PCOSers do well on low carb and highish protein.
For me that means keto, and I am still trying to get the protein right. lol.

Glad you found what works for you!
I am carnivoring at the moment too, and love your ‘nutty carnivore’ description. I am more of a ‘choccy carnivore’ since a few squares of 70% dark choc seem to find their way into the equation nearly every day. Am fine with that. I hate strictly prescriptive ways of eating, and will happily tweak things til I find what works for me.

PMDD sister also petite . I’m perimenopausal so that made for some fun times :grimacing:. I call it PMS with an axe!

Smooth sailing since starting Keto though. I’m experimenting with alt day fasting and no weighing or measuring on eating days. Going by body signals.
