Advice on daily food

(Pat) #1

I would appreciate anyone’s thoughts in my daily food intake.
Weekends: breakfast normally 2 eggs and bacon, lunch tinned mackerel, salmon cheese or liver pate on olinas seeded crackers (0.2 carbs per cracker), dinner meat and vegetables fried in fat or butter. If I don’t have vegetables I have mushrooms fried in butter. One or two coffees with cream or almond milk and 2 cups of tea with almond milk.
Week days breakfast boiled eggs tea with almond milk, lunch salad fish or meat olive oil dinner meat and vegetables fried in fat or butter. I don’t cut the fat off the meat. Thanks in advance

seems like you’re on the right track. the only thing i’d be wary about using is the almond milk, but as long as you’re staying under 20g total / 20g net carbs daily (depending on how you’re tracking), go for it!

Meat, fish, eggs, butter & vegetables? All sounds good to me :slightly_smiling_face: Do you feel well?

(Pat) #4

Yes I do feel well. Not too much happening in the way of losing weight or inches. I am reluctant to give up this way of eating because I love it but I just wanted to know if I. On the right track. Thanks

(Pat) #5

The almond milk is 0.3g carbs per 250 ml and 38 calories which is way less than ordinary milk I thought I would be okay with that. I need something in my tea as I don’t like it black. It took me ages to find an alternative to milk. I don’t think I would have much more than 350ml per day and sometimes only about 100ml. What is it with almond milk that I would have to watch how much I consume? Thanks

(Pat) #6

I’m always under 20g carbs by the way and I use Fitbit to track.

(Alex) #7

that’s not bad at all then. most standard brands of almond milk i come across in stores are loaded with roughly 7 or 8 grams of both sugar and carbohydrate for a 250ml portion. seems like you’ve found a good one at just .3g carbs per serving though, so i wouldn’t worry! how long have you been eating this way? if you do want to possibly lose more weight / inches at a quicker pace, a lot of people report that cutting dairy temporarily helps them get past a stall / speed up weight loss. just a thought, hope this helps!

Sorry it’s .5g carbs .3g sugar. Its CAlifia farms almond milk in the fridge at woolworths. I did some research in store and found Almond Breeze .8 most of them are 8 or 9 g per 259 ml.

Califia farms is wonderful. I like their toasted coconut milk. They are the lowest carb in a nut milk that I have found.

On the surface it looks fine. But you haven’t included quantities.

(Pat) #11

Here’s the quantity
Weekend Breakfast : 2 fried eggs with 2 rashers bacon
Lunch: one olinas seeded cracker with liver pate or one slice cheese or 125g Tinned mackerel in brine or salmon.
Dinner: 150g meat (chops roast belly pork or minced beef made into burgers) or fish with fried vegetables. Meat can be lamb beef pork or chicken. If the meat is steak I have it with fried mushrooms and zucchini. I don’t cut off the from the meat. I don’t snack
Weekday breakfast: scrambled eggs or boiled eggs
Lunch: salad (lettuce cucumber 3 grape tomatoes quarter avo) with fish or meat about 85g and olive oil.
One coffee with cream
Another coffee with almond milk but not every day
Dinner: meat with fried veggies
Sometimes this varies and I have stir fry with cauliflower fried rice or chicken wings in ground almond and spice coating or fried liver and onions.
Am I eating too much? My macros for yesterday were 4% carbs 83% fat 13% protein. The fat seems high. :slightly_smiling_face:

That wouldn’t be enough food for me I don’t think but we’re all different. Are you using a tracking app like cronometer ? Are you satisfied with the amount you’re eating?

(Pat) #13

I use the Fitbit app I found it the easiest one. Sometimes I get hungry about 5pm. We don’t usually eat until 7pm (that’s just a habit we got into when we came to live in Australia). So I’ve just remembered I do snack when I’m hungry l’ll have a slice of cheese or left over meat. I really just wanted to know if I’m eating right.
If I’m already overweight (64kgs about 150 cm tall and 67 age female) do you think I should be eating so much fat? I usually have fat on meat. It usually works out at about 3 tablespoons butter or fat a day, 2 to 3 tablespoons cream and about one tablespoon olive oil.

The types of foods you’re eating look good to me but if you’re feeling snacky before dinner you may want to try just eating a little extra at lunch.

As to the fat question - you’ll get different answers from different people I’m afraid so it really is a matter of finding what works best for you. The ‘targets’ you need to hit are keeping your carbs at or below 20 grams & ensuring you get enough protein (we need a bit more protein as we age). Beyond that you can only go on your own results & how you feel.

(Pat) #15

Thank you for replying it helps to get another point of view.
I know there are a lot of opinions on how much fat we should be eating and also how much protein. I found I had to cut down on the protein because I love meat and I could eat half a plateful and that seems to be too much!

(Jennibc) #16

Don’t snack! Eat bigger meals. That gives your body some time without insulin circulating.

(Pat) #17

Yes I really need to eat more at lunchtime
