Advice for helping me lower my A1C even further---5.4 right now goal of 4.9!

#1

Can those of you who have lowered your A1C without meds give me a few tips for how to lower it even further?

I currently eat keto pretty strictly and have lowered it from 6.0 to 5.4 in 10 months. No alcohol, sugar, grains etc.

I have not been exercising because I have had the shingles.

Thanks for your help.

Fasting. Read Jason fungus book. If you’ve been keto 10 months it should be rather easy to ease into fasting and depending upon how much excess body weight you have will affect you regiment.

Happy to entertain!:grinning:. Sorry Jason. You are not popular enough to avoid apple’s spell check to work correctly.:flushed:

Your body is stressed by the shingles, healing is complicated.

Are you sticking to 20 net grams of carbs or 20 grams, if sugar alcohol is involved or some other artificial sweeteners too, that can make a difference in your glucose/insulin levels. Take a hard look at those.

I also 2 nd the suggestion you read Dr. Fung’s Guide to Fasting. Unless you love Jimmy Moore’s voice, just get the reading version, not the audio one.

Good luck sorting it out, and 5.4 is an ok number, so don’t stress yourself about it. Just KCKO.

Mine on September 1st was 6.5 and I’ll be happy if I get it down to 5.4 by March. Doc wanted to put me on Metformin and I refused. Drove straight home found keto and went on it and not looking back.

Diet is better than Metformin, of course.
People shouldn’t really fear metformin, there are many many benefits.
Sounds like you dont need it.
Think about taking it if your A1c is over 6.5 one year from now.
or if you stop Keto.

I find the trite “All Diabetes Meds are Bad Bad Bad” mantra on my Keto Websites closer to Hysterical than Factual. Let me be clear … Death to Glyburide, Death to Mega Insulin Dosing, but Metformin is clearly in a class of it’s own.

Weight loss > Metformin.
But don’t fear it.

VLC.MD thank you so much for that info and advice! I’ve taken it to heart and I’m not planning on going off KETO. Thanks again for the encouragement as well.

My lab results say that to have an A1C of 5.4, my estimated average glucose is 108 but I hardly ever see numbers (when I check my blood) in the 100s. I see 80s, 90s but not usually 100s unless high numbers are happening in the middle of the night?

Youre right about my body being stressed by shingles!

Add my vote for fasting too! Keto got my a1c down to 5.7. It took intermittent fasting 18/6 and some extended 48 hour fasts to do it, but last measurement was 5.0. And Jason Fung’s book is THE fasting bible; nothing better, in my opinion. Good luck!
