Americano and double cream, just make the switch. I used to be a 100% flat white drinker, but now I prefer coffee and cream over the occasional one I have for ‘old time’s sake’
Advice for a cappuccino lover?
My ketocoffee ends up very like latte and may be worth a try 1 tablespoon butter 1 tablespoon coconut oil 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream 1 cup filter (drip) coffee and blend using a stick blender ( or in a liquidiser). Foamy top just like latte
I bought an espresso machine with steam and I have a double shot with pouring cream which I get a great froth on sometimes too much, don’t miss the milk version at all
I have done it with heavy whipping as well once you get some heat in to it it thins down and works the same as pouring cream
I pour about a tablespoon of heavy cream in my mug and about the same amount of coffee just to get it thin enough to froth. Froth it with my little battery powered frothed, then fill the mug with coffee. It gives a nice frothy cap.
OK so I made a makeshift office version of this with HWC today: Nespresso (though I left the water on too long so it became something like a short Americano) and then I used the Nespresso foamer with some HWC. Poured the semi-frothed cream into the coffee and I was a happy camper. Totally doable on a regular basis (and will save me money!)
P.S. I have a steak icon next to my name today, apparently it’s 1 year since I joined the forums
That is a misunderstanding. I make my cappuccino with 6oz espresso and 6oz HWC. I’ve been frothing for 20 yrs now so can froth that HWC to a silky microfoam.
I’ve never used those mechanical frothers, i have a stem wand on my Brutus IV! Done and done!
I am jealous! I can make some foam but not the microfoam I got with whole milk, using the steam wand on my oscar simonelli. I need more practice, I’m sure.
I have had my machine for about 10 years. I got great results with whole milk. I have only been doing the HC for about 3 months, so I guess a lot more practice is required. What I get at Starbucks has a bit more microfoam than I have been able to get yet.
We visited Germany 7 years ago and I’m still envious of the espresso machine that my husband’s Cousin has in her home. Like many Americans, I have just a simple Mr. Coffee drip coffeemaker.
I have been doing just that for about a year and a half now. I have a small container that I use with my Bean Envy Electric Milk Frother Handheld, Perfect for the Best Latte, Whip Foamer, You just need to not froth it too much or it becomes whipped cream. I also found that a blend of cream and coconut oil makes a great cap.
I’d like to clarify: you’re drinking 6oz of cream every coffee? That’s half or a third of my usual daily fat intake.
Also: you’re using one of those cheap hand frothers? But then the cream is going to be cold and your coffee will be an suboptimal temperature, no?
I’ve tried using the steam wand on my Atomic coffee machine to froth cream, and it was a total nightmare — it just doesn’t froth at all. The only thing that’s worked so far has been the nespresso frother which is just a fancy version of what it sounds like you use.
No no. Never had one of those. I have an industrial steam wand on my brewtusIV. HWC is much trickier to froth up to microfoam than milk
So I have a steam wand on my Atomic. I tried frothing cream, and it just splattered all over the place. Didn’t froth up at all. What’s the secret?
Stick it in a little deeper and let it settle before you pull it up. Don’t feel bad, it’s notoriously hard to do right. The barista at Starbucks today was totally frustrated that he couldn’t make it work. I ended up with a flat white in stead of a cap. No problem for me, as I know how hard it is.
Looks like a German sex toy. But I guess I could froth my wife’s coffee with it as well.
Ahem. It took all my effort not to post a “that’s what she said” but the I look at the next post and …
