Adding Oat Fibre to a meal

(Wesley Doran) #1

If I add 10 grams of oatmeal fibre to a freshly cooked meal am I able to deduct it off the carb macros in the meal?

You first add the 10g and then subtract it, leading to no change in net carbs. Fiber can’t erase starch/sugar carbs that you eat - it just doesn’t add any carb calories because it’s indigestible.

Thanks Jack

Wesley, you have discovered an accounting stunt that many food producers use to fool you into thinking net carbs are lower than they really are. As @ajbennett says, adding fiber does not remove anything else already there.
