Hi Guys! I would like your thoughts on this please. I appreciate the benefits of ACV but have really struggled to get it down as its so disgusting! But now I have discovered that a splash of Tessierre 0% syrop grenadine makes it almost delicious!
I don’t have particular issues with sweetners but this contains Acesulfame and Sucralose. As I drink my ACV before meals do you think I am just stimulating an insulin response and negating any benefit of the ACV?
If so I might just learn to live without it!
One of the many mysteries of keto keeping me awake at night!
Acv with sweetener!
If you don’t have any negative reaction to the sweetener and it fits your carb macro limit, then why not? I will just add that you can water down an ounce or so of ACV in your drinking water and barely taste it… or add it along with dressing to include in a salad.
I once tried a shot of ACV and it made me look like this:
Haha that made me laugh!
I do 1tbsp in a large glass of water which just prolongs the agony!
I will persevere with it then.
Thank you.
Sigh. I see posts extolling “the need for ACV on keto” too frequently. You don’t need ACV to live a low-carb diet.
If you’re forcing it down, your body is trying to tell you something. Low-carb is about listening to your body, not “keto experts.”
You don’t need to drink it and it brings other factors that merely complicate low-carb diets.
Good point. I feel like my gut microbiome is healthy but I do admit tinkering with certain aspects that I do see recommended by the experts, for the sake of science.
I feel the exact same way about potassium chloride.
Yea, I heard he’s partial to ACV. And fasting. That’s fine, but it’s optional, not required.
I’m a new ACV drinker, but I’ve grown to like it so much that it’s become my primary drink of choice. I add 2-3 TBSP of it with a few drops of stevia to 16 oz of water. Or I make a pitcher of water and mix the ACV with the juice of 1-2 limes/lemons. Or I mix it with various flavors of water enhancers. ACV adds “kick” without carbonation.
Try freezing it in mini ice cubes and swallowing them whole; easy.
Adding a dash to your ketoade can make it easier to stomach as well.
Actually added a tablespoon of acv (along with baking powder) to a dough mix today. Was worried that it was going to affect the flavour of the bread but couldn’t taste it at all.
Thanks Chris except I have never made ketoade. I have always been a saltaholic and never had keto flu. Felt amazing from day 1 - my body crying out thank you, thank you! All blood checks have been good.
I will try it in my bread though - cool thanks!
Acids like lemon or vinegar enhance to leavening power of baking soda. Buttermilk, yoghurt and sour cream also the same effect on baked goods with soda. Although you might loose the healthy benefits of ACV by cooking it, if you’re using live ACV with the mother in the bottle. I don’t consume it myself but I think it’s a healthy habit that I should be doing, like with so many things we choose our battles.
You wouldn’t, because the acetic acid (which is the vinegar taste) reacts with the baking soda in the baking powder to create carbon dioxide gas, which is tasteless. (And of course the bubbles make the bread rise—a win-win!)
Thank you for this advice, I painlessly take an ice cube now before meals and I truly believe it helps with digestion and gut health as well as slowing any carb absorption!
