Active Vacation, cramping concern

(Marisa Huffman) #1

I’ve been on keto for three and a half months. Haven’t cheated don’t really want to but we are going on an active vacation to Mexico and I’m very concerned about legs cramping. Here was the plan I thought of this morning. Try to keep my carbs to under 150 grams per day. Maybe eat a banana a day and either some Mexican rice or a couple tacos a day. My husband told me just to get off the diet while on vacation so that I feel well doing all the walking and snorkeling. Would anyone like to weigh in on what I should do? What I don’t want to do is completely start eating whatever I want. I didn’t feel well doing that and psychologically I felt beat up, fat and sad. So I do need to be smart about what I add back in, but I do need to add some potassium and magnesium from the Mexican diet. I really don’t want to bring my huge jar of powdered magnesium or my heavy glass bottle of MCT oil. I’m going to have to get all of my fat and minerals from food I just need some tips on how to do that with Mexican Cuisine.

Someone on these boards turned me on to Sports Salts (picture below) capsules. I get mine at Sprouts, but you can order them on a ton of websites online. They’re super easy to bring on trips and keep me from having any electrolyte issues like leg cramps. If being off keto makes you feel like crap, I wouldn’t do it. It’s not worth it imho. Stay on track and just keep your electrolytes up and you should be just fine. Nothing to stress about!

This supplement looks like the exact thing I need and I will purchase some. So thank you for sharing! However we are leaving in two days so I won’t be able to get it in time unless a place like Supplement Superstore carries it? Do I have to buy it online?

Do you have a Sprouts nearby? That’s where I get mine. But yeah, another supplement place might have it as well.

I guess I’m confused on why you think cramping will be an issue. Do you have problems with it now?

Even in Mexico - you can stay Keto. I’ve been there, done that.

I did an active - cycling - holiday at the end of May. I took my magnesium tablets and spray with me and carried a small bottle of pink himalayan salt and olive oil whereever I went.
I ate 3 meals a day - all keto - and substantial. My BS and ketones were super all week and I lost a few pounds in weight. I drank black coffee and had lots of water throughout the day. No cramping whatso ever.

Have fun, enjoy your holiday.

No on the bananas. Yes to avocados.

Yes I do. If I point my toes to stretch while I’m sleeping I’m in danger of having a charlie horse.

You know I got lazy and didn’t want to mess around with carrying all my special oils and Foods. So I just ate a quarter of a banana everyday. Seemed to do the trick and I stayed in ketosis I lost weight from all the walking we had to do at the resort.
