Accountability Partner

(Aliescha) #1

I am restarting keto and need some inspiration/accountability partners. I don’t use Facebook so that is not an option. Any suggestions? I was doing great on my diet. Made it through Thanksgiving and all the way up to a week before Christmas and completely derailed. Now I can’t get back on track.

Start with the basics.
Clean the carbs out of the cupboard.
Write a list of keto meals/foods and shop for them.
Start at the beginning eat a keto breakfast - bacon and eggs, keto lunch etc, dinner.
You may only need to do this for a couple of days and then you will move to a morning coffee w cream and only lunch and dinner as your hunger receeds. Remember no snacks. Put your keto snack foods into your meals (nuts in a salad).
You know how to do this. Remember it’s a way of life/way of eating (calling it a diet might be not be helpful - there is often the association of the word diet with severe restriction).
Don’t punish yourself. You made a mistake like we often do. That is yesterday and the next hour is the time to commit and take that first keto step (which might not be eating and could be planning, shopping, cleaning, reading).
The carb temptation will pass.

What is your most challenging issue?

Thanks for the encouraging words.

My biggest challenge right now is just giving up the sugar again. My plan is to wean myself from the carbs over the next few days and be back at it on Monday.

A coworker had wanted me to try Weight Watchers with her. I have tried and failed with that plan so many times. Instead, we are going to challenge each other.

So over the next few days it’s wean from the carbs, get rid of the few that I have in the house, meal plan and immerse myself in the keto community.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #4

What worked for me was to first cut out sugar and sweets, without worrying about the refined grains (bread, rice, oatmeal, etc.). I quickly started feeling so good that it became easy to cut out the grains, and eventually everything but keto-friendly vegetables. I now live with family who are sugar-burners, so it is hard to avoid the occasional apple or berry, but I am pretty good about staying away from the sugar and grains. It helps that I have been sober for some time, and all the tricks that helped me get and stay sober in the beginning also work on a sugar addiction. Keep us posted about how you’re doing; that will help. Feel free to send me a private message if will help.

So as you have asked for an accountability partner, I’m going to ask you to write on this forum a schedule of sorts to give yourself something to work to. The degree of difficulty is yours to choose.
By the way I totally agree on the Weight Watchers front. You may convert your friend in the end

I tried a zillion times, to just cot out sugar, or just white starches, etc… and though my diet wasn’t horrid, I could never restrict like that for more than a day or two. But when I decided, after plenty of researching and tossing the idea around in my head, to start keto, I just jumped right in and never looked back. For me, I think the full-on commitment and somewhat draconian routine, worked better.
