Accidental whey protein n=1

(eat more) #1

so i haven’t been using whey protein powder at all for like 2-4 weeks…was a daily thing prior to that.
almond milk, whey, almond butter
today it sounded good for some reason…
same jam…almond milk, whey, almond butter…

within 20 minutes i was feeling super funky (and still am)
like i have a racing heart and want to lie down at the same time…booooo! i hate it!

insulin?
coincidence?

whey is the only “new” thing so it’s a good thing i don’t have a costco quantity (anymore lol) in stock?

more monetary savings brought to you by keto woe?

thoughts?

What type of sweetener is in the whey? Usually it’s some type of artificial sweetener and I’ve had negative reactions to those since going keto.

Whey is very insulinogenic without any added sweetener. Folks that are diabetic or insulin resistant should avoid it. Honestly everyone should but that’s just my .02

i will for sure avoid it now LOL

protein powder has been a “thing” in my daily life off and on for decades but that was an unexpected and uncomfortable experience.

Yeah…on MyFitnessPal, I have often read posts from people experiencing that…they drink a whey-based smoothie and they get the shakes and feel like crap.

@mikki You will feel better and better without the whey protein powder, imo.:grinning:

I used whey protein powder years ago when working out (lifting weights and intervals) because ‘ya gotta get yer protein’. Looked for the best brand, paid big bucks and still got shaky and felt like crap, especially after intervals. Never drank shakes (don’t like to drink my calories) but made lots of lc muffins. If I see another recipe for muffins with whey protein powder… I was probably on my way to being pre-diabetic then and it never dawned on me at the time. Keto has made a huge positive difference in my life!

You get a greater insulin response with Whey protein then you do with eating a piece of white bread. So i can see it dropping your blood sugar low right after you drink it.
