Accidental cheating after 6 weeks

(Raquel ) #1

So long story short, I ordered unsweet tea and sweetened it with stevia before taste testing it. Turns out it tastes so good because it was sweet tea all along. A few hours later I checked and I was no longer in ketosis. I’ve been doing keto for 6 weeks, will one cheat drink prevent me from being fat adapted? And if so, will it take me the full 6 weeks to be fat adapted again? And what’s the fastest way I can get back into ketosis?

Don’t worry about it, just continue on as normal. It only takes about 48 hours to deplete glycogen stores, so it’ll pass.

How does this affect the fat adaption process? Since it’s been 6 weeks, do you think I’ll be ok or does it restart the process?

It doesn’t restart the process, don’t worry about it. Suddenly putting 20g+ of liquid sugar into your bloodstream might not feel good, but it doesn’t set you back to square one.

Thank you! This makes me feel a lot better. I just felt for a second like my 6 weeks went to waste.

This is the risk we take when we place our trust in others to prepare our food and drink. Maybe it was a mistake… maybe they ran out of stevia and figured nobody would be the wiser that real sugar was used instead.

The good news is, a bad day on keto beats a good day on the SAD. You will survive this.

I occasionally have a similar experience with decaffeinated coffee. Every now and then some idiot waiter decides that I’ll never know the difference and serves me real coffee, rather than make a pot of decaf. All caffeine does to me is to keep me up past 3 a.m., but a cup of real coffee would have put my mother, may she rest in peace, in the hospital with a severe heart arrhythmia. I take great joy in speaking with the managers of such establishments the following morning and pouring on the guilt.

Having worked in restaurants quite a bit, I’ve seen servers pour the last half cup of decaf into a pot of regular and vice versa, just so they can start a new pot. Ocasionally, rookies will not realize the importance of color coded pots to signify decaf from regular and will make the coffee in the wrong pot. The next server comes along and unwittingly serves the wrong coffee to a guest.

My son is allergic to caffeine or another ingredient in Dr Pepper (had a frightening medical event at 17yrs old after drinking it where his blood pressure went sky high after consuming a 20 oz bottle…happened 3 days in a row before he made the connection). How does the waiter not consider that the patron may be allergic to caffeine!!! Makes me furious :rage: you know as a mom lol…

This is why, back when it mattered, I would insist that the person give me his or her phone number, so that I could share the joy of being awake at 3 a.m. That usually got the point across.

These days, by the time I get to the restaurant I’ve already had my caffeine fix for the day, so it’s your elephant :elephant:
