About Today

#1

Back in 2006 I trained for and completed the Chicago Marathon. That journey was aided by the virtual companionship of many others training for the same and similar goals on a message board very similar to that which we have here. I absolutely value the community that we have here but miss the opportunity to share, journal or blog style, my daily escapades. Having said that, I’m plowing forward and beginning that with this post. I know I could blog elsewhere. I’m looking for the give and take that ya’ll provide.

I am in no way an expert at this. I have only been living this lifestyle since the third week of July. In that time my wife and I have lost about 120lbs together. I’ve dropped from 267 to 211. I practice a lazy version of KETO. I don’t track macros. I intermittent fast Monday-Friday while eating only one meal a day on those days. Saturday and Sunday find me feasting as much KETO food as I can stand.

A few days a week I do some pushups and pullups using the Zen Challenge series apps. Today, I ran for the first time in years. It wasn’t too intense. It was even fun.

Here’s a pic of the day we started and on of me about a month ago:

Some progress has been made.

Wow - impressive! Congrats.

Congrats— Nice work ! I was actually thinking to start what you’ve just started here - perhaps a collegial keto log?

I started this just a couple months ago. Was at abt 137-140 lbs with a big hankering to get down to 120. Just because I feel a whole lot better there. Couldn’t do it on a fairly disciplined calorie restriction daily exercise program. With IF and ketogenic eating, the scale just dropped. Hooray !

But only to 130. 10 to go. Have had a whole lot of social eating breaks. No big drama just not quite keto. Learned a lot.

  1. My “ social eating “ is all abt me not those loved ones I’m eating with. Excited abt the “ social “ and wind up eating more. Nobody else seems to notice if I don’t.

  2. Keto feels incredibly good inside and I can almost “feel” when my blood ketones are up. Almost.

I’m hoping to learn internally just how many healthy carbs I can take in each day and remain ketotic. Everybody’s different. Right now on < 5 net carbs per day til dinner. Then can have the other 5. Still aiming for goal 120 lbs.

With holidays I’ll just take a break fm most of this. Important thing is to get right back on it. Egg fasts are good.

OK talk soon ! I hope others join here.

What’s your day to day and just what are you learning ?

Best to all !

Ati

Congratulations on your progress thus far. Back in 2006, perhaps even today, jumping in as you have done would have been called “hijacking a thread.” Can I politely decline to make this collegial? I’ll happily follow your daily entries as I hope you will continue to follow mine.

Yesterday in Keto…

Beverages: three cups of coffee, an 8 oz Diet Pepsi, and day long sipping at my bottle of water

Food: my wife made pork chops for our single meal of the day (nothing fancy)

Compliments: I got one from my administrative assistant’s husband. I haven’t seen him in months as he travels quite a bit for work. He said that I look slender. I truth, the last time I looked slender was in high school. I think I look like a thick-legged Finnish farmer with a slight paunch in the middle, but the compliment was nice.

NSV: I lost another half of an inch from around my waist

Exercise: None on the schedule today.

This weekend looks to be a busy one. My son plays varsity hockey for his high school. Tonight’s game is local but I’ll be on the road tomorrow. In between hockey games are my daughter’s youth basketball game and decorating a tree for the crazy time we call the holidays around here (Not a big fan, to be honest.)

Here’s an updated pic of my wife…

Your wife no longer looks like the pic on her identity card!

#7

Nope. I’m so proud of her.

Oh ! So  sorry ! No idea what you could mean by this but so sorry my response came out that way to you. Good luck with all of this. Looks like you’re doing great !

you both look amazing! I bet you have the needed energy now to keep up with the demands that come with having two children playing different sports. I remember those days, keto would have been a godsend then! Rink food leaves a lot to be desired. KCKO

Thank you! We actually have five children. I know I don’t look irresistible, but…

well it would appear your wife finds you so and that’s all that matters!

So, about today…

This weekend I ate and ate and ate and ate…breakfast casserole, fat head pizza, double cheeseburgers sans the bun, pork rind nachos, coffee with heavy cream. As it is Monday, I likely won’t eat until seven or eight o’clock this evening. My last “snack” was at eight pm last night, so I’m currently in the middle of a 24 hour fast. I have no idea what I’ll eat later. Keto food prep has become so easy I don’t worry at all what my next meal will be.

I completed my pushups and pullups this morning. I have not yet run again. Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow. We’ll see. I got some exercise in on Saturday morning by shoveling snow from the driveway. It’s a great workout and somehow not as tough of a chore when I look at it that way.

Snow covered roads have extended travel time between appointments today, so I’m off until later…

KCKO my friends!

Today is my weigh in day. Though I know the scale lies, but not as much as the mirror, I still weigh myself once a week. I’m officially down 59lbs. since I started this journey back in July. Yahoo!

I read about this thing called height to waist ratio on a different thread here. Back in July my ratio was 69.1% (ouch.) As of this morning I’m down to a flat 60%. I really like this nonscale version of tracking progress. It’s simple to calculate and seems to correlate to health much better than BMI. Moving forward, I’m going to switch from having a weight-based goal to a HW% goal. Seems more realistic. Thoughts?

I ran again today. It felt really good. For what it’s worth, all my exercise is performed in a fasted state.

Dinner last night was chicken thighs cooked in bacon grease and seasoned with parmesan cheese and garlic salt. So. Good.

I think it’s easy and sensible, Todd. 60% here too, looking to get it under 50, eventually.

#15

I’ll see you at 50.

(Doug) #16

Figured it up - I was 46% in high school as a distance runner… (Participation in that sport was something that people later had a hard time believing, looking at me.)

All things are possible with Keto.

Yesterday and today have been bitterly cold, it’s 3 degrees fahrenheit right now, and very snowy. In the past my stomach would have growled unceasingly as I slowly drove from appointment to appointment. I would have had to find time to slip and slide through a fast food drive through. Not any more. Keto has set me free.

My wife made meatloaf last night. She uses pork rinds as the filler and seasons it with a variety of whatever else she feels like adding at the moment. I love her meatloaf. I think Keto-ifiying it has only made it better.

Can I brag about my wife? As of yesterday she has lost ELEVEN inches from her waist line! I’ve always thought she was beautiful, but now? Wow. I’m the luckiest.
