A1C, lipids panel repeat next week-- advice on LDL

#1

All my numbers were greatly improved after 4 months keto, now — cut my heart meds in half and dropped the lipitor from 40 to 10 to 0. But my LDLs were over 100 (VLDL 15!) and both my GP and cardiologist want to retest… I don’t mind since my triglycerides are down from 300+ a year ago to 75 and HDLs up from 15 to 60 ish I am not going to go back on statins anyway…

Wasn’t there some trick to really push LDLs down?

You can try this:

Also, ask for a coronary arterial calcification (CT) scan. It’s the only thing that tells actual risk. LDL is useless.

Bob, my cholesterol was 276 yesterday. My CAC is 79. What’s your opinion about these numbers?

Thanks – that was exactly what I was looking for.

Well, I’m of the opinion that cholesterol and LDL are “meaningless” (for the most part). It’s protecting the endothelium that’s important. Personally, my money is on Malcolm Kendrick’s ideas:

There’s also a transcript if you can’t listen (although as a person in the US, it’s interesting to listen to these accents).

Your CAC is more troubling, though that’s not that bad of a score. Ivor has some data indicating that CAC scores are reversible or at least you might not experience an increase. You should look through Ivor’s website:

Yikes! He’s got a lot on his site. This is one I listened to about reversing your score:

WARNING: The man being interviewed does have his own vitamin K product. Also, there’s no transcript.

I think the idea is to get vitamin K up (possibly vitamin D, magnesium, too, maybe others). You can take a pill, though I did not and got a score of zero. Vitamin k is also in cheese, natto, meat, etc. And retest at some point to see what happens.

Of course, Ivor recommends a low carb diet, less stress, and a several other things. He’s got one slide with a bunch of levers on it, and the levers are the things you can do.

Thanks so much for the info Bob. I will watch videos tonight. Didn’t mean to hijack your thread @Fracmeister.

No problem… that was even more interesting
