A thing of beauty - behold my new Ikea appliance cupboard!

(Louise ) #1

I wanted to share my excitement with all you foodies…behold my new Ikea (Metod frames and Marsta doors) appliance cupboard. I was frustrated that I had so many of my appliances (aka @carl medical devices) on my bench top. I am slowly decluttering my kitchen and filling up the empty shelves - so don’t panic.

As you can see in the second picture, I now have bench space back! Happy like a pig :pig: in poop :poop:

Looks faboo! Love IKEA!

Sooo…is that like two of the tall cupboards or the smaller cupboards with hutches on top? Are they about 80cm wide each? They look very good. I’ve been tearing my hair out about kitchen stuff recently. That looks like a very stylish solution.

Ye old toaster has been relegated to the stratosphere top shelf (it’s 2.4m tall or nearly 8ft) :joy:

Its two 80cm wide cupboards together (so 1.6m wide). The top doors are 1.4m tall, with the 20cm deep drawers in between the bottom doors which are 60cm.

If you want the total order (4 x 140cm doors + 4 x 20cm drawers + 4 x 60cm doors + 2 x metod 200cm cupboards + 2 x metod 40cm cupboards) ++++ hinges, rails to attach to the walls.

What is the frustrating thing was the Ikea sales person forgot to order the extras like the feet, the plinth for the kicker, the initial door sizes were incorrect - so we’ve been back to the store three times already!

Set aside at least a weekend, as I did all the cabinet construction (I have the scars to prove it!) but my partner then did all attaching to the wall and fiddley things that required more technical handy person skills.

What’s a toaster? I don’t have one.

(Louise ) #7

That’s funny :joy: mind you, when I make low carb bread or buns, we might have to bring it out!

Cheers. Nicely done! Multiple trips to IKEA would have been maddening - especially on the weekend. But those clear bench tops and streamlined appliance spots should make up for it.

Nice! What a great idea! I have all my appliances scattered around in different cupboards and shelves in an effort to not have them all over the counters. I have the perfect spot for a new “appliance” cupboard in my kitchen. Thanks for the inspiration and great idea!

Very nice! How wonderful is it to have free bench space? I (over?) indulged a few weeks ago on new Kitchen Aid appliances and have set aside an hour each night this week to clear out cupboards and make space for them. Can’t stand the clutter…it interferes with my Keto zen! :joy:

I’m hoping that someone will provide a photo of a pig; happy in the poop…But, I look forward to the little things…

Liking the sous vide cool box

This is insanely important to me, as I grew up in a community of hog farmers. It is important to educate those that don’t have access to this critical information.

Here is a link to the token photos of pigs in poop:

No 2 is so gorgeous!! That is one happy looking little porker. Apologies @LouiseReynolds for hijacking your thread. Anyway, back to the matter at hand, what did you use to drill a hole for your sous vide in the Esky lid? I’ve got one sitting here ready to convert but don’t know how to go about it. Any tips?

(Louise ) #15

My very hand partner drilled the hole in the top of my cooler. Deferring to his expertise, he drilled it from the inside of the cooler top outwards with a ‘standard hole drill bit’ which come in a range of sizes. He sized up the diameter of the sous vide and matched it to the closest hole drill bit. All very technical, but was done as a surprise for my birthday!

What size is the cooler @LouiseReynolds

(Jane Reed) #17

I’m drooling over that clear counter top/bench.

(Louise ) #18

@Robert it is 10L which is about 2.6 gallons (according to my converter app) It is perfect size for most things like steak, chicken, and even using the 8oz jars for puddings and custards (make about 5 or 6 pots at a time). I’ve attached a bigger picture

#19

@LouiseReynolds this is on my to do list  also yet to venture into the puddings you mention, I am really looking forward to this

My wife has one (I refuse to claim even part-ownership). It seems to spend most of its life producing blackened carbon. I sometimes think she’s given up on making toast, and is actually trying to short-cut the process which led to the production of petroleum from trees.
