A sensible time to start fasting?

(Katie the Quiche Scoffing Stick Ninja ) #1

I’ve only been on Keto for 5 days but low carb for the last few months in preparation. I think this helped with keto flu symptoms as I had none, not one headache.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading about intermittent fasting.
My goal is weight loss as I have no medical conditions except asthma and possibly ADD (undiagnosed), but even when I reach my goal I will continue with this WOE because I like it so much.

I am having one BPC at 8am
Second meal of day around 1-2pm
Dinner around 7-8pm

Is there a sensible time to start fasting?
When would you suggest, and for how long for?
What eased you into fasting, did you start with a particular length at a time?
I am not fat adapted yet obviously, so I am still struggling with hunger pains every 6 hours or so but i’m doing well with feeling ‘satiated’

I am wanting to get down to OMAD eventually, but I heard fasting is better suited to maintenance? is that true?
Please share your experiences

Hi and welcome

Many here will share and you will find that not b4 12 noon is very common
Meaning…not eating. IF mode
Myself included

Perhaps at some point YMMV
SKIP the BPC, and just try to have black coffee?

I really wish I loved black coffee, but I do not! Nor tea :frowning:

My experience is that the hunger just gradually eases off, and I started to forget what time it was and forget to eat. Which made IF a natural progression.

Nowadays my body just doesn’t ask for breakfast, so I don’t bother with food until lunch, which falls at 1-2pm, depending on work schedule.

Some people seem to find it easier to skip their evening meal, but that doesn’t work for me. Hate going to bed peckish.

I do have a drink with a dash of cream in it in the mornings, but it is a v small dash, and mainly in order to provide a little fat to help with the absorption of my Vit K2 supplement. I don’t see it as breaking a fast.

I understand
Some are addicted. Not me:cry::grin:

Couple of options then:

You can drink ur BPC slighter later?
As you ease in to it…you may find urself not as hungry for lunch.
Then perhaps eating a late lunch an or dinner ?

Soon, you “ may find your above eating window shrinking …now it’s 8am to 8pm

…getting it to 10-6, 11-5, 12 -4 etc…

Many combinations
THeres no right or wrong way

For me, I do NOT eat b4 12 OR after 6
2MAD, OMAD…
On a rare occasion…I may go off slightly

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

In answer to the OP: wait a bit until you know you are fat-adapted, because fat-adaptation makes fasting a lot easier. Give it a couple of months before giving it a whirl. As Brunneria posted, it eventually becomes natural to skip breakfast, because you’re just not hungry. That’s probably the point at which you might want to start trying to fast. But if you have trouble, don’t worry about it. It will come eventually.

I am on day 9 and I am certainly not hungry, but that may be because I have fallen sick and I have no appetite, am hoping it’s a boost lol.

I am finding myself only eating 2MAD with a BPC, yesterday I only had OMAD with a BPC.
