A question about fat burn

I always wondered about this scenario, I tried to make it as easy to follow as I could below.

John goes full Keto, eating less than 10g carbs per day, high fat healthy meals, in 8 weeks John is in full Ketosis burning fat most of the day

James eats about 70g carbs per day, healthy meals, intermittent fasting (First meal of day at 2pm / Second meal at 8pm / 70g carbs total) in 8 weeks James is burning fat from fasting when he sleeps untill his first meal the next day.

True or False?

I believe that your body will go for the easiest fuel source first so it will use the fuel in any food you’ve eaten, then it burns through any stored fuel in your liver, and finally it will kick into fat burning mode after those sources are exhausted. There are a lot of technical terms for all of this that I can’t quite remember. I"m sure someone much more knowledgeable will come along soon and give an intelligent answer.

Thanks! Sorry I think I edited my question while you answered, but that sounds about right

Depends… John should definitely be in ketosis… James might be depending how screwed his metabolism is before he starts… but like being half pregnant I’m not sure you can do a “half ketogenic” way of eating and get any of the benefits for sure.

Your either in ketosis or not, no full or half.

Intermittent fasting can slow your metabolism? Some do it on the Keto diet, but maybe Keto has a way of boosting metabolism that a normal diet cannot

I would say that with the amount of carbs he is eating it is possible that he may never get into ketosis even if he is intermittent fasting… even overnight… it would be possible but not necessarily the case unlike with the first guy who should definitely get into ketosis.
