Today marks the 1-month milestone of making the change to Keto. I wish I could report that it was filled with ups and downs, cravings, cave-ins and the like but truthfully it’s been really easy.
I stopped drinking milk probably a month before deciding to go onto Keto, and for no other reason than it simply wasn’t part of my diet any longer. Then my husband and I decided to change our eating habits, get back to the gym and shed the weight we gained since moving to NZ.
I am 11kg down from that disastrous day a couple of weeks ago when I got on a scale and it tipped at almost 95. Only once in my life did I hit that high, and a couple of years ago I swore never to reach that weight again…but I did. Now I am on a journey to get back to the 70’s and I am 110% committed.
It did not take much changing, to be honest. We cut out the daily beers and wine, pasta, potatoes, lollies etc. We also stopped eating fast-food (no more pizza, burgers, etc.) The most important thing for me was replacing my morning toast or cereal with something else. My average daily plan looks something like this:
- 2 eggs for breakfast
- nuts for snack in-between
- salad for lunch (greens, salami or smoked salmon, cheese)
- Yogurt (De Winkel Plain Unsweetened…the stuff’s amazing!) mid-afternoon
- Dinner of meat and greens
I use the FatSecret app and track everything as I have been adamant about sticking to my 30g-or-less carbs-a-day goal. And I have been. It’s fantastic, and not difficult at all. Sure, I miss the fruits I used to eat, but it was a passing moment. My energy levels are constant right throughout the day with no dips. I also feel allot more focused and sharp, as it were. I am also back in the habit of going to the gym every day. 45-minute cycle, weights and stretching
And that’s it, really. No drama or anything. Just a relatively easy lifestyle change with great results.
