A disturbance in the ZC force

(Robin) #1

Very weird happenings here. I’ve been carni for a bit over a year now. Very basic, nothing fancy, not really a cook. Just eat my meat and carry on.

I only weigh every 6 months or so, out of curiosity. In my first year of regular keto, I probably lost 45 pounds. In this year of carni, I have lost another 15 very slowly. (I’m 5’7”…215 down to 155)

I’ve been 155 for months and months. Noticed my body shape was morphing in good ways but maintained that 155, and no complaints about that.

Now, I am slowly losing again. And nothing in my diet or exercise has changed. Isn’t that weird? I’m don’t care if I lose a few more. In theory I can lose another 10 and be good. I also don’t care if I stay at 155.

I am new-ish to maintenance, I guess. Is this common?

It is great to hear about your experience. It helps to give context to what I’m experiencing.

I’m constantly amazed at new realizations in how my body is changing, adapting. I’ve only been on keto for about 9 months. I started reducing carbs, sugars and processed foods two months prior. In the first seven months, I lost 83 pounds. I had a lot to lose, still do.

For the past month and a half my weight has remained constant. Yet the new pants I bought a little over a month ago, which initially fit great are now falling off.

I hope I will begin losing again. For now my body appears to be making adjustments. It seems counter intuitive that you can lose size without losing weight. I don’t exercise as much as I should so that is not the reason.

It’s a journey that I am enjoying even if I don’t understand everything.

I can’t give advice because I am a VERY ssslllooowww loser…I’d just like to congratulate you on such great successes so far!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #4

Your experience is very similar to what mine was, including the period of recomposition after the main fat loss. Because my weight was stable, but I was losing inches over the following twelve months, I was apparently gaining lean mass (probably denser bone) to offset the weight from the fat I was losing. So the weight was stable, but I was still getting better.

I could do with losing another 80 lbs./36 kg of fat, but given how much better my life is, and how my metabolism has improved, I’m not complaining!

Really impressed with your results. I also am 5’7", started at 206 and I’m now down to 172 after 5 months. I have been up and down in the 170s for the last 3 weeks or so, got down to 174, then up to 176, now at 172. I only weigh about every 7-10 days. I really hope to get to 155, but I am noticing the clothing fit. I’m already down 2 notches on my belt, and I think I’m getting close to 2 sizes down (probably at a size and a half now). I really want to buy some new shorts, but I keep waiting so I can get a size that will last. Anyway, it’s very encouraging to me that you are in maintenance and can still lose some weight, even if you don’t know how it’s happening, haha. I was so close last night to eating a couple of Cheetos Cheese Puffs, but convinced myself it’s just not worth it, so I had pork rinds instead .

So agree. I have my annual physical in October. I had improved a lot three months ago but using my blood glucose readings as a guide, I’m hoping to test around 5.7, down from my original 8.6. Of course the most I can do is measure trending lower, I have no idea if the actual numbers are valid.

(Robin) #7

Lots of smart people took their measurements in the beginning. I never did and wish I had.
Or took before photos. I burned all the evidence.

I love the before and afters on here. Some are incredible, especially when they share pics along the way.

(Robin) #8

We are similar. I knew I was truly losing when I started to wear a belt again. My goal was 180 in the beginning. In previous diets, I would land there and feel pretty good about the way I looked. So when I passed that, I was amazed. Never would have believed I’d be this weight again.
I keep my wardrobe very limited now. Just the essentials.
Glad to hear you are on the same journey.
Isn’t this forum like confiding in your best friend?

Thanks for posting about this Robin, it will help if/when I hit a long plateau. I took my measurements at the beginning and just retook them. 2 cm off my neck, 6cm off my waist, 3 cm off my hips in 3 months. I’ve lost enough weight now for it to be really noticeable. Yay! Just dropping weight will be improving my health a lot, then all the ZC benefits on top of that.

Well…darn…wonderful post!

ZC FORCE!

Nope not wierd at all. ZC is a lifestyle off all plant carbs. The meats give one full nutrition. Key being it is always noted ‘not a weight loss’ plan but it is of course, but key being it is not no instant weight loss plan on a warp speed timeline. Body must heal/repair/re-align and re-balance hormones and then who is that person? more sickly dealing with real med issues? or coming into this plan healthier?

so many gray areas but one thing we say all the time in ZC is ‘Keep the Faith’ and that means for many a long haul. Something most people can’t handle for weight loss. Must happen now, now, now and we ALL get that  but ZC changes us all the time yet we don’t even know it.

Your body will set right where it needs to be. You will become one of those humans where your body directs point blank where you should be and it decides on its own timeline to do just that. True natural body.

Key to all this long time and how well we do on ZC is eat. EAT and eat more when we start! Because this food is what changes us internally. Once the body inside gets a handle on itself and becomes healthier went tend to forget ‘dieting’. Drop ol’ stupid useless dieting info. We must restrict food…nope. We must exercise more? nope. When ZC gives us more energy we tend to just move move move more  a natural thing… We must force fasting on ourselves…nope. We must worry every minute what we eat…nope. Whole thing is eat the meats/seafood fish and fowl you love and don’t look back, for some the way forward is alot faster, for some it is slower but we each Keep the Faith and ‘we get there’ and the body surprises us again

I loved your post. I loved reading you just ate zc and just ‘let nature’ take it course’ and boom…new good changes

Very common but key is it is for longer term carnivores. It is mostly not for newbies for it to go down this way and it is not for ‘more sickly medical tough issues’ some are dealing with to correct but your journey is one many carnivores chat about on the specific carnivore threads all the time. Common, yes it is among us ZC masses!

I experienced just like you. I get ‘chunk drops’ of 3-4 lbs every now and then and then just wait for it to happen again and like you I want those personal ‘last goal numbers’ to happen right now but I don’t care to force it…I just let it happen but key being, I know my number in my brain is not any number the body cares about  It will set me right there when it can and I just let it happen.

I thought your post was fab R…more force power to you.

(Marianne) #11

I’d take it!!! Good for you!

(Marianne) #12

I love it!!! Something very good is happening, even if the stupid scale doesn’t say so.

(Marianne) #13

I didn’t either and regret it. I would love to know. My stomach used to be the biggest part of me.

(Judy Thompson) #14

So how many of us are there?? I really have no exact idea what my beginning weight was and like you, I weigh very very rarely.

(Robin) #15

We are multitude

I am not Zero Carbs, but last November, (2021) when sadly my awesome Dr, left the province, I was 8 pounds away from my goal weight (148) and felt frustrated. He said to me, it will take a long time to get those last pounds off and you may never lose them… So I lowered my expectations and was content at 154. Well here I am at the end August 2022 and the last 6 weeks I have began to lose again, I have been eating maintenance style all year and now enjoying our local harvest, even Corn, only one twice a week and still lost. He was so right, sometimes you have to accept where you are and when the time is right, things could shift. I am currently at 151 and not planning on giving up what works for me,if it takes 3 months to get to 148, so be it. Should I get under that it is ok too… December in Mexico City … LOL

reminds me of that saying, go with the flow of life.
yes we keep changing every minute but it isn’t just ‘time’ as they say, the body will definitely change when the body says it is time. Your body said, wow, I AM super happy, I will change more for this person

great post!!

(Kathy) #18

Thank you.
I am so glad that my Dr. said that to me before he left!
Cheers

I realise this wasn’t the question, and that women are touchy about their weight, but I think you could - and should - be less than 145lbs as a 5’7” woman. I’m a 5’9” man and am currently around 130lbs. Therefore, I think you could safely be less than 120lbs and still be very healthy. I’ve known many sub-120lbs women of your height, and even your age. Don’t put limitations on yourself. Well done.

(Robin) #20

@Marty85
I’ll not get my dander up, since I am impervious to being mansplained. Just keep the word “could”, remove the word “should” and carry on. I’ll take it from here.

Seriously, I’m not “touchy” about my weight, or I would not have shared both my beginning and current numbers. I am simply celebrating where I am, as I have done every step of the “weigh”.

I don’t tell folks who are thrilled with where they are, that they could and should do better. My parting words are almost always, You got this!

And if those abs in the pic are yours, you definitely got this! :vulcan_salute:t2:
