Thank you @cwstnsko @Brunneria @justatube,
Really appreciate your input. Feel like I’m in a horrible middle ground. Because I didn’t do the whole Keto thing prior to Carnivore like most others I feel like my Insulin sensitivity isn’t strong enough to handle the protein volumes. But mentally I prefer the just meat and water approach. At a crossroads. Don’t know where to turn. It’s so difficult to trust if I stuck to meat and water for 3-6 months I’d feel fantastic for it when 30 days is so tough. @cwstnsko your experience is really interesting. A 10oz stake isn’t going to feed my satiety. I’ll be hungry on finishing the last bite. The positives of my Carnivore experience was that even though I’d slump after eating for 2-3 hours and have to sleep, I wouldn’t eat or even think about food again until the next day. It was so liberating in that respect. I buy fat trimmings and suet from a local grass fed farm and I want to pile that on top of 40-50g of protein to feed my satiety but I’m still fearful of too much fat. I already eat a lot. I’m curious of the PaleoMedicina approach is 2:1 fat:protein gram ratio. That would help insulin sensitivity. As you can tell by my pinball thoughts and writings I still don’t have a defined path to follow so I feel lost. And there’s nothing worse. I know the answers in there somewhere beneath the debris.
90 Day Journal. I need your support
Here’s what I keep thinking and what draws me too Carnivore. There MUST be an optimal diet for our survival. Beyond calories in calories out. There’s no other species as far as I’m aware in their natural habitat that if they eat “too much” of their natural diet they can’t function or become ill and susceptible to prey. If you catch my drift. Carnivore seems to hit this brief. People eat to satiety. Don’t gain excess weight, increase their strength and performance etc. The caveat to that theory though is 29 years of abuse and addiction to food that isn’t optimal.
Not sure if you’ve come across her, but her LowFiiZC might be just what you are after at this stage.

She is also fairly active on Twitter if you need to get hold of her. https://twitter.com/CelticCarnivore
Here’s a thought Chris. Would love to know your opinion. A raw meat 30 day trial. I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to or desire to consume 100g of protein in one sitting eating this way. Should experience satiety easier. Plus I’ve always struggled with the digestion of cooked rendered fat. Perhaps I’ll find raw easier. Thoughts?
I haven’t tried fully raw beef. I have come close with briefly air-fried steaks. I eat a lot of steaks Sous vided at 131-132 F. At that temp, the fat softens, but doesn’t really render much, if at all.
I don’t have personal experience to draw from, but I’ve read that some people feel it makes a difference. If you haven’t checked out Paul Mabry, aka the Zero Carb Doc, look him up. He practices a more moderate protein / higher fat version of ZC, specifically targeted towards people who experience higher blood glucose or plateaus on higher protein.
@oward12, how’s it been goin?
I am at a jumping off point, myself.
I continue to have bloating reactions so foods but I know meat and eggs does not cause it, nor butter. So this alone is enough reason for me To try’s ZC.
Hey man! It’s good to hear from you. So I’ve kept quiet recently on here because I realised I’m really not very good at this and need to find what works. I’m still searching. I know Carnivore gives me the best baseline stability. I have good relationships with everyone around me. I can process difficult emotions much easier. So I believe it’s the way to go. I went raw primal for a while which gave me good energy (I even got myself back to 50 miles a week with my running) but I’m currently on Day 9 of recovering from food poisoning and feeling pretty rotten. So I’m cooking my food again from now on. I’m not eating loads of muscle meat. I’m including lambs liver and egg yolks regularly for their nutritional content. See how we go. No bloat though. Even with severe stomach pains fromthe poisoning. I’m fed up with the nutritional game of chess. Just want stability so I can be a good son, brother and uncle and so I can be productive in all other areas of life. So yea. Up and down mate. I’m sure you can relate to that. Back to strict Carnivore for me though at the present moment (no dairy).
How have you been? Noticing more and more sensitivities? I can’t tell if we become more sensitive, or if it’s just the less impulsive mouth pleasure we experience the more attuned we are to what’s causing problems.
@oward12 oh my god man you are speaking my language. So sorry to hear about the food poisoning. On top of those other feelings being lost nutritionally, not knowing the root causes of things, constant experimentation AND THEN food poisoning on top of all that…i hope you are finding some self-love and gentleness (even though i know how near-impossible it is to give myself a break sometimes). Yeah man, i’ve had it. Had it with cravings. Had it with the not-knowing. Had it with the preoccupation of looking forward to my meals as the bright spots of my day yet fearing that they will turn on me and make me feel sick.
I had a long run yesterday and decided to do it fasted instead of use sports nutrition for fear of the consequences so it is really disrupting my life right now. I know that eggs and butter and meat WORK. So i’m sticking to those, protein macro be damned.
Anyways, got to head to work reeking of sausage and butter ;). Best wishes to you!
You’re a kindred spirit Nath. It’s good to know there’s others out there. We’ve got to keep going mate. Keeping giving our all and practising forgiveness. There’s something in this I believe. Keep updating me with your progress man. Running and eating. I’m always interested. Be kind to yourself. You seem like a good man.
What is the consensus on eggs? Why do some people include them, and why do some people X clued him in a carnivore diet?
I think it’s more so the whites that most have issues with. I just eat the yolks. Seems to work. That’s where all the fat and good stuff is. With regards to fats it’s like I said earlier. Once I remove all the other crap I find I don’t tolerate butter as well. But by all accounts looking at peoples social medias most people use it liberally. I think fats the key to feeling good on Zero Carb. I’m lucky and buy good quality fat trimmings from a farm.
@Dread1840, @oward12, gotcha, i thought it was probably digestion-related. i’m going to keep an eye out for how they affect me.
But so i wouldn’t be disrupting something about the science of carnivore if i were to continue with eggs and butter as long as they agree with me? Sorry just wanting to give myself a fighting chance.
Definitely not. Most Carnivores continue drinking coffee and that doesn’t come from the animal kingdom. It’s whatever works for the individual. Butter and eggs are certainly a well accepted addition to Carnivore. A lot of people use cheese and heavy whipping cream but they are binge triggers for me so a big no go.
@oward12, @Dread1840, how do you guys do with pork rinds? i like the epic ones for providing crunch to my meals but they are actually slightly triggering and i’m not sure how they sit if i have them to frequently. sometimes they are made with safflower or sunflower oil which i don’t do well with but i think the Epic brand pork rinds and cracklings do better. thoughts?
i’m kinda curious as to your take on not-so-natural foods like jerky, pork rinds, things you can find on the go.
I take a rather practical view.
Where possible, I will eat home cooked, un-messed-about-with foods.
When out for a meal, I will eat the best (least processed, least sauced) carnivore item. For example. will happily choose a naked burger, if that is 100% meat, but not if they fuck it up with added onion and other gunk.
Woiuldn’t eat pork rinds at home.
Happy to have them when out and about so long as they are gluten and MSG free. We have a brand here in the UK called ‘Posh’ Anglesey pork scratchings. The rinds are deep fried in pork fat, and the only added ingredient is salt. They are superb, but can only be ordered online.
If I am caught out, without food, and needing food, I will prioritise blood glucose control over carnivory. Since my blood glucose is a bit unstable in certain circumstances, this might mean a handful of jerky, or nuts, or the nearest chocolate bar - depends on the individual circumstances. Last Saturday, on the road for 7 hrs, I had a bit of a blood glucose wobble (long story) and ended up eating 4 of the most amazing florentines (whole nuts, dried fruit, a smear of caramel, and very dark choc). I spread them out over the entire journey, and enjoyed every single delicious nibble. Probably won’t have them again for another 2 years.
For me, carnivory is a means to an end, not an ideology.
