7am bg 183 on OMAD

I have been trying to do one meal a day for the last 3 or 4 days - i eat at 3pm - lots of greens, butter, ahi tuna small steak then the bluberries with whip cream and also Carls’ dessert ( heavy cream, cocoa then i put whipped cream ( no protein, no carbs) on that as well. I have coffee with mct in the morning, and yes with some sweet leaf stevia. Please critique this and suggest why i might have high bg’s during the day. Yesterdays readings 159/137/166/141132/ with a couple of ketone readings of 1.9 and 1.5.

How long have you been on keto?

I don’t know what a Carl’s desert is. Can you describe it?

Is your whipped cream from heavy whipped cream that you whipped yourself?

How many blueberries?

Is the stevia liquid? I’ve seen some stevia packets that are filled out with dextrose as a ‘bulking agent’ and ‘to improve the taste’. So, you might be getting some dextrose there, if it’s packets.

Elevated early morning readings could be dawn phenomenon. https://idmprogram.com/dawn-phenomenon-t2d-8/
It might be better to bedtime readings to establish your actual baseline.

since March 2017.
my hba1c’s were pretty good until the last one.

made with heavy whipping cream, cocoa.

thank you.

the whipped cream in carls heavy cream is from a carton of heavy whip cream,
then after i blend and its all together i put whip cream from a can ( no protein, no carbs)
the number of blueberries - a couple of handfuls - maybe 40-50? these are small bluets.
SweetLeaf Sweet Drops Liquid Stevia Sweetener - i don’t think it has any ingredients that would raise bg.

I’d stop the canned whipping cream. It’s frankenfood.

1 cup of blueberries is 20 carbs.

Really, why not stop the blueberries and just have your fatty LC mousse without them?

ok, i will try to get away from the blue berries. thank you. not sure if it was anywhere near a cup though. more like a quarter of a cup maybe, i will have to dole it out and then measure it in a cup to be scientific… thanks again.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #12

Another possible source of trouble is the stevia. People all react differently to the various non-nutritive sweeteners, and one that’s fine for other people might spike your glucose, and vice versa. You might see if a different sweetener makes a difference. And read the labels carefully—a lot of sweeteners contain sugar in one form or another, though you might not realize it from reading the package copy.

what do you mean by ‘lots of greens’? I figure about 3 carbs a cup for greens, though I prefer to weigh them because if you pack them into a cup, it can be more. (There is a recommendation for 7 to 10 cups of greens floating around. That is totally insane to me.)

The incidental carbs can add up. Its about 1 carb for 1 tsp of plain cocoa powder, 0.4 carbs per tablespoon of HWC. I made a very simple chocolate mousse last night, about a half cup, that came in at 7 carbs. ( Is there really a can of whipping cream with 0 carbs?)

There may not be many, but there are carbs in whipping cream, and protein can raise your bg by about half of what carbs do.

That said, it doesnt seem as if you ate all that much.

ok, i hear you. i tend to think my high numbers are from the liver releasing glucose hence a rise in the numbers. at least that is what i want to believe. i have been fasting now for about 23 hours again, and my number now is 148 bg and 1.6 ketones. But you are absolutely right, and i am trying to experiment to rule out stuff. but i am finding it hard - i just had another couple of coffees ( butter, coconut oil, cinnamon) to see if i could do it for a 42 hour fast instead of a one meal a day. still not sure what i am doing.

for greens i took a handful of veriticot green strings, and several pieces of broccoli and steamed it. then lots of butter. i might just have that for my feasting today, and just try to avoid any dessert altogether, although i am addicted to heavy whip cream and the cocoa mix. i might also avoid proteins of any kind except for that dairy. i do not know what i am doing.
