4 weeks in and stalled at 5lbs lost

I went on keto as I’ve struggled thru all other types of programs: weight watchers, high exercise boot camps etc. At 48 and having 2 young kids my body just holds on tight.

I’m loving the simplicity and lack of cravings on Keto. Less loving that I cannot drink at all withour feeling absolutely horrible.

I have about 20-25 to get back to a healthy weight for my frame. My first 2 weeks I was down 5lbs and one inch on my waist. The next 2 nothing. This is exactly where I get with most other weight loss attempts and I will sit for weeks with no changes.

I am tracking everything on a keto app. I’m usually at 1500 cals/under 20 carbs 80%fat. I make my own food and don’t eat out much.

The only thing I have found is maybe I am snacking too often vs 3 meals/day. I tried that yesterday and was definitely hungry and a little crabby between meals so maybe that is the issue.

Anyone have other tips or experiences to share? help!

For me, weeks 3 and 4 were stalls with even some gain back in week 4. By the end of week 5 I started losing again.

Snacking may be impeding your success. You are not letting your insulin levels drop enough to where fat burning is possible. Ideally you should be going 5 to 6 hours between meals, and then eating enough at each meal to feel full and get your nutritional needs met.

Especially try to avoid snacking later in the evening, to get a full 12-hour fast in (7pm to 7am for example) each day.

Eat more at meal times so you don’t need to snack as the snacking will be harming your progress. That said, it’s very early days so try to be more patient.

THIS

Also, generally speaking, this is a HORMONE control diet, not primarily a CALORIE control diet, so make sure you’re eating enough. (“Diet” being used to mean “the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats” not society’s current.)

I highly recommend The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung. It’s a good and easy read.

thanks all! I did snack free yesterday and today. That may be the issue because I felt tired and slightly nauseous/ hungry/tired similar to my first week on keto. I also did my own calculations on a recipe for fat bombs I found online and realized they were more net carbs than I thought.

Fingers crossed this get things moving again!

Thank you for the recommendation.

Hmm, 45 holds on 7 copies at my regional library. I ordered it, but I guess it’ll be a few months. Or, there’s a “summary” available at Amazon.ca for a few bucks. (Or I could shell out for the horse’s mouth.)

Wow - that’s great! (I mean - sorry, not great for you - but what wonderful news!)
