4 months done.
What have a learned ?
I love this way of life.
There will be days when I choose to eat carbs, and I make this choice.
But more importantly I don’t feel guilty as I still really enjoy certain carb rich foods, but I treat this more as a reward for my hard work.
And I move on from that day and get back on the keto wagon.
So I will be having one day a month where I have a day off keto.
For me this will make it more manageable. And most importantly sustainable. I feel like I now have a more healthy relationship with food and that includes carbs.
But most importantly this works for me.
I won’t apologise if this offends strict keto advocates. I just feel like I can embrace keto but still need a day off occasionally.
4 months on keto, what have I learned?
Good attitude @Jeffmac69 4 months is awesome, I hope I can say that I have achieved the same.
I agree with many things you say, especially “I love this way of life” , but to me, this
has been the most important element to my journey which began 1 1/2 years ago. Many stops and starts over my time, but finally I am finishing my 6th week of < 20 carbs, a record for me, and I feel on my way to becoming fat adapted which up till now had been an impossible goal.
I also have carb days, but so far I am able to keep my total carbs < 20 for that day but I know that won’t always happen and I won’t fret about it either, I will just KCKO
Thank you for sharing this. I have a 50th birthday coming up where I am hosting a 50k bike ride and party afterward at my house. This was in the works long before I started keto almost a month ago. I don’t plan on going hog wild but I also do not want to be trying to coordinate this even, ride 50k, be the hostess with the mostess, birthday girl, and count carbs. I want this one day off (so to speak). It is nice to know that I wont spontaneously combust if I go off course for a day.
Our bodies are all different, which is important for us all to remember and what works for one person might not for another but as long as you figure out what will work for you, and you can stay on track and get right back the next day, then that’s great.
For some other people, this could cause them to totally fall of the wagon and keep cheating; as it were, so one has to figure out what will work for them, and if they cannot resist the temptations, then perhaps they cannot do that. Best wishes on your continued Keto journey.
Thanks for the replies.
One other thing I have learned is, almond butter really upsets my stomach. At first I was using peanut butter in my protein drinks but I was fine. But when I switched to almond butter I gradually started getting stomach ache. So I stopped having almond butter. But in the last couple of weeks I have been adding peanut butter to my protein shakes again. Without any adverse effects. I have found just by experimenting with this way of eating I am finding ways of making it work. Like I said this is for life and has to be sustainable. But I am loving how this lifestyle is making me look physically. I just need to catch up mentally. I still suffer with anxiety & depression. But getting better. And I have more good days than bad.
I’m not disputing this, however, just wanted to share that I have hosted two parties now with non-ketoers and found that except for the alcohol, I had no problem staying on keto. Many of the things I served were keto friendly that people love anyway, and they didn’t even know i was doing anything differently. Cheese, pepperoni, cocktail meatballs with dipping sauce, hamburgers, sausage, hots, or meat, wings and blue cheese, savory cole slaw, veggies and dip, etc. Of course, you can serve rolls, bread, cake, etc., for anyone who wants them. I am finding that this WOE is very versatile and not as restrictive as many non-ketoers think.
Have a great time!
Me too! I can’t believe I used to think that it was okay to eat a pile of pasta and not okay to pile avocado and cheese on to scrabbled eggs. Also, I can’t believe how great I feel.
Sounds great! When is the next party and what is your address?
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all get together!? So many wonderful members.
