4 days in

Hi everyone. I am four days in and, while I tell I have definitely lost some weight, I feel sluggish and oily like I have butter and onions coming out of my pores! Yuck! Is this normal? Should I include some more carbs in my diet? I peed on a Keto stick and I am largely in ketosis so I don’t want to ruin it. But I feel so blah and sluggish, like you do when you eat a giant steak. I am also hungry in the evening. I can get away with no hungar pangs until about 11. Then I have to eat. I have been sleeping better, on the upside. Any words of encouragement or advice would be nice. Thanks!

The sluggishness is normal. You are starting to deplete your body’s glycogen stores, so you don’t have that to use for energy.
It takes a while for your body to learn how to use the ketones efficiently for fuel. This is called the adaptation phase. It typically takes 6-8 weeks to become fat adapted, but you won’t feel horrible that whole time. It’s a slow ramp up, not an on/off switch.

But resist the urge to add carbs to offset this as it will just draw out the time it takes to adapt. And that’s when all the good stuff happens.

Sounds like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. It gets better after it gets worse. Welcome to the club!

I got sort of an oily feeling too and I read another post by someone describing themselves feeling like an “oil slick”.
I don’t know if it was psychological or an actual thing, but it went away.

I read that same comment. I’ve never felt that way, but my kitchen sure has.
