3 weeks in and finding my feet!

(Allison Taylor) #1

Hi All, I started keto diet 3 weeks ago. I’m still working out what works for me, what foods to eat and when. So far I’m loving it. Not missing carbs or sugar at all. I have no idea if I’m in ketosis or not as I can’t find sticks and don’t have anything to measure.
I’m 52 and going through menopause… maybe at the tail end. I started keto to lose weight and feel better. I was on a facebook page a lady mid 55’s talked about losing 7.5kg in weight in 3 days!!! Insert shocked face here… I’m not sure of what is realistic or not, but I’m sticking with it and will keep working on getting my macros and food right!
Cheers Allison

Hi Allison,

Congradulations on starting keto. Awesome!

When I read the title to your post “finding my feet” I was expecting an amazing story about being able to see your feet again. But, any story about a person transitioning to keto is just as incredible.

If you are feeling great, if you hunger is greatly reduced, if you have more energy, then you are likely in ketosis at least some of the time even if you don’t verify this by urinating on a stick. I never bother to test ketones I just make sure that I am eating net carbs < 20 g/day and moderate protein < 50 g/day.

Welcome, most welcome to the bold and courageous community of keto.

Keto for Life!

Warmest Regards,
Richard

Thanks, Richard!

It does read like that doesn’t it! lol …

My protein is good. My fats are not are not as high as they should be, around 75g… It’s the carbs, I’m trying to get my head around. I was struggling to get it to 20g, but then realised that I should be counting net carbs… Lordy, so much counting and calculating! LOL

Cheers Allison

If you are not feeling hunger, there is no need to eat more fat to a specific number. The primary focus should be net carbs < 20 g/day and moderate protein. The bulk of your energy will come from the fat you eat but also the fat you have stored in your body.

Don’t force yourself to eat more if you are not hungry.

Keto is wonderful, a delight, not a dietary punishment.

Warmest Regards,
Richard
