I had been keto for five years at the time I came down with COVID. The fatigue took almost a year to completely go away. Give yourself more time. Or, as we like to say, keep calm, and keto on!
3 months strict keto
People often misread “100 g of protein” as “100 g of meat.” Perhaps this is the case here.
In reality, meat is about 1/4 protein, so to get 100 g of protein, one would need to eat 400 g / 454.54 lb/g = 14 oz. of meat.
I‘m taking a handful of supplements twice a day, everything you can imagine is included;-)
Ok, l will keep, calm, augment my protein intake, eat three times a day amd keto on as you say. Thanks to all of you, i will report back!
Doesn’t seem like much food at all, have you calculated calories / macros?
Just because you’re not feeling hungry does not mean your body is working as it should be and if you’ve been eating less than your body needs for any length of time, the likelihood of metabolic slowdown is high, which would explain your lack of energy, so maybe advisable to research reverse dieting.
That’s around 1000-1300 cals, which unless you wake up, barely move and go to bed for the night is starvation. That’s problem #1 regardless of long covid if that’s what it is. How long have you been eating that little?
I had long covid myself, as did my wife, but eating like that would make you feel the same way. NAD+, and Glutathione was what was prescribed to us to fix it, different doc’s, different practices. That’s essentially become the go-to when your doc isn’t brainwashed for reversing long Covid symptoms. We both deal with optimization docs, not mainstream idiots. But either way, you gotta fuel yourself, and you’re not doing that if that’s typically how you eat.
Ok keto pals, l am listening to your advice and will eat 3 times a day, with a lot more protein. I don‘t consider myself to be ignorant, l am a health practitioner myself. As my Long Covid gave me an autoimmune issue that does not fit any conventional diagnosis and everybody is clueless, l tried to implement the intermittent fasting which is always highly recommended for these conditions. Maybe not for me, maybe not now.
I am spending a fortune on supplements, NMN and glutathione included, so that is not the missing link.
I will eat like an ogre, keto of course. And report back after a while to let you know.
All the best to you, keep the faith:-)
There is a period of adaptation to a keto diet, during which mitochondria have to heal (and make new ones), and certain de-activated metabolic pathways need to be reactivated. It takes six to eight weeks for most people. Once someone is keto- (or fat-) adapted, fasting often happens automatically. It’s only in the adaptation period that we discourage people from trying it.
Some people take longer and some people take less. I was 52 when I started keto. It definitely took me longer than 6-8 weeks to get fat adapted. I think the older we are, the longer fat adaptation takes. The fact that you are already “depleted” from long COVID, could mean fat adaptation will take longer for you.
Also, fat adaptation is a gradual process. You don’t suddenly wake up one day and you are full of energy. You will just notice over time that you feel less and less lead-like.
Hi. Keto is not an anti-Covid diet, so not too surprising it hasn’t helped your long covid. However, I do believe what you have been doing food wise is healthy, and should help support your body. Can I make some comments? NMN is kind of expensive, and actually gets broken down in the liver and used up by CD38, so is not getting converted to NAD. Instead, I used apigenin and quercetin to inhibit the CD38. This is a cheaper option than NMN, and quercetin has other benefits. Kind of the same with glutathione. Taking it directly doesn’t allow your body to regulate how much it needs, so instead take things which your body uses to make glutatione - I use NAC for cysteine and TMG for glycine. TMG will also give your body 3 methyls to support methylation processes. Again, cheaper and probably healthier options.
As for your Covid, no one seems to really know what causes long covid, so take what I suggest with a grain of salt, but you can try things which are supposed to break down the spike protein. Bromelain may do this in the digestive tract but doesn’t probably make it into the far reaches of the body, since it is going to get used up by all the proteins in the digestive tract. Nattokinase is supposed to make it into the body, and may help. It is not the cheapest, but you can make your own natto, which has plenty of nattokinase. There are reports of methylene blue as effective against active covid.
Good luck, but FYI, NMN doesn’t even come close to NAD+, while it’s technically a precursor it doesn’t act the same at all! After NAD+ you have a superman like energy, it’s pretty nice. On the Glutathione, it’s the injectable one right? I’ve tried a handful of non-injectable sources and same deal, never works.
I am taking ALL the supplements on your list, plus NMN because l bought a one year supply back in February. My NAD level is better then a 29 year old‘s, l tested it, it is at 75, 50 is already considered high. So NAD+ is not everything. And l bought the most expensive NAC on the market, it is called Augmented NAC and has been devlopped by Italian doctors. I couldn’t literally take more.
Maybe my augmented protein intake will make the difference.
Thanks:-)
