24 hour fast during week/feast on the weekend

New to fasting. Started eating Keto on December 26th. Is it okay to eat 1x a day during the week, and to feast on the weekends?

The only challenges I can see are:-

  • any medication may need adjusting
  • how you feel doing it
  • possible social pressure

If you can navigate your way through that, it sounds like a perfectly workable plan to me. Try it and see. Jason Fung says fit fasting around your life - its flexible.

I think it depends on what your goals are. Many people are fasting to lower insulin resistance and lose weight. I have been doing OMAD (one meal a day) for a long time but recently heard Megan Ramose (Dr. Jason Fung’s assistant) say that it might not be great to do this day after day because the body adapts and will down regulate metabolism. Better to do so every other day. I am currently changing things up to see how it works or not for me.

If you are in maintenance, then it is a great way to eat.

Thankfully I’m not on any medication, and so far I feel really good. Each day gets easier. I’m not doing a true fast though because I do have a coffee with butter in it. I enjoy doing this because I still eat with my family in the evening and don’t need to really explain to anyone that I am fasting the rest of the time. My husband does not understand or agree with the Keto WOE at all, so this helps a lot with not drawing any extra attention to how I am choosing to heal myself.

I am not in maintenance. I need to lose about 25 lbs before I get to that point. Good information to have though and thank you for input!

I heard this too, fasting talk podcast, and have decided to switch my fasting up. I just finished a 90 hr fast, I think I’ll try alternate day fasting in a couple weeks. I too have been in the habit of eating only once a day. Although my one meal is usually pretty large!

I heard the same podcast with Jimmy and Megan about OMAD. My understanding of it was to make sure that on your eating days you are getting enough calories. If you get all of those calories in a short eating window, that’s still okay. Maybe I misunderstood. OMAD has been working well for me, but I may switch it up to alternate day as well.

Yeah, that’s the way I understood it as well. Eating too little will put you in a hypocaloric (I think that’s the right word) state and you risk slowing your metabolism.

It really doesn’t make a lot of sense to me but I am willing to give it a try. The reason being that fasting for days doesn’t seem to do the same thing, I am confused… but I guess it is nuanced with many, many factors.
