21 Day Water Fast. Starts tomorrow. [21F, 75kg] [Goal 60 kg]

Hey everyone! I decided to fully embark on a 20-day water fast to break my bad eating habits and shed 15 kg. I’m currently in my third year of chemical engineering and let’s just say that the load of 8 courses is crashing me down. I’m a stress-eater and because of that, I gained a lot of pounds. I don’t really have time to go to the gym except during the weekend. I hope that by the end of this fast I will achieve mental clarity, and break my bad eating habits and fall into healthier options. After these 21 days are over it will most probably be around finals week then Christmas break. I want to go home as a different person than I am today and different than how my family last saw me.

I will post on this forum every day. I will update you with my results and on my dizziness etc. This will sort of be my online diary. I bought Pink Himalayan salt and apple cider vinegar. I’m not quite sure on how much I’m supposed to take. If anyone knows please comment on this post. I already did a couple of water fasts but I can’t seem to get past the 4 days barrier. I hope that with these ingredients I can last the full 21 days.

Anyone is welcome to join me. 21 days pass extremely fast and I believe that support goes a long way.

Thank you for this! Has that helped you overcome dizziness/weakness on day3/4?

I have never heard of a 21-day water fast…are you sure this is safe? Is your doctor on board with this? Hope you have someone or several people able to assist.

30+ Lbs in 21 days? Does that seem realistic? Or healthy? Fasting isn’t a magic bullet. I just don’t want to see you disappointed or in the hospital.

I’m going to go as far as I can. If I feel that things aren’t going as they are then I will stop. As for the target weight, many people that waterfast end up losing a lot of weight. I guess it depends on how much you can lose and it will get slower once you start getting closer to your set goal. There are youtube videos on people that did extended fasts and ended up losing a lot.

There are many types of fasts. If you google 20 day water fasts or even 30 day waterfasts they will come up. You can’t do extended fasts if you’ve never fasted before. That is why I spent the last two weeks preparing for this 21 day fast. I’m not going to go force myself to continue if I feel that things are getting out of hand. I told my doctor about it. I have scheduled weekly visits to check how my health goes.

When I did my 3-4 day water fasts I ended up losing 0.5kg a day, it’s mostly water weight. I think that after you pass the 4-5 day benchmark you start losing fat.

I looking to start a 21 day water and salt fast, probably some potassium and magnesium… No broth or anything like that…

I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment.
I think you are setting yourself up to fail. If you’re doing this purely for weight loss I suspect you will be weighing daily, and when the numbers aren’t what you expected you will become disheartened and either give up and binge, or obsess over the numbers and distract yourself from the exams. OR, you might take it too far and wind up too ill!
How tall are you? I’m 72kg and 174cm, when I did two weeks of fasting with a couple of days off in the middle, lots of bone broth, coffee with cream etc I still lost 4kg and have not regained. If you are very short, then maybe you will lose more, but I really think you should pick an achievable goal and if you do better, then that’s great! Try for maybe 5kg? And make sure you listen to your body - when I felt weak and hungry, I had a small amount of fat and it did not stuff up my ketones but made it easier to keep going.
I would like to join you on this fast, but I don’t have much body fat left so it may be counterproductive while I’m training.
All the best, stay safe and take care of yourself.

I like goals, generally. (I often don’t achieve them, but that’s a different story

But short-term goals are often best set where the endpoint is under our control (or mostly so). And when you set short-term goals for our BODY, it can cause issues, because your body doesn’t necessarily react in the way you would like, when you would like, and there’s nothing you can do to force it to do what you want. (Amputations aside.)

That’s why I’ll repeat “The trend is your friend” forever. Look at how you’re going overall, not in the last week. (And trust me, I’m repeating this to myself daily, I’m currently all over the shop.) And look at more than weight, look at your overall well-being/situation.

Bodies are like an aircraft carrier - they have a lot of momentum and they don’t necessarily want to change in a hurry. Sometimes they will, other times they need to be gently pointed in the right direction and have it suggested to them that it would be a good idea.
