2019 Diet Trends --- Rolling my eyes

I love how when you do a little digging … I think she’s a vegetarian… so, of course, she’d recommend the plant-based diet as best…

They at least don’t totally trash keto…

Just wait till U.S. News & World Report comes out with its January diet article and lists keto last, as always. I counted 13 threads about last January’s article; this year I bet we’ll break 15!

I rolled my eyes the most at:

"Any diet that’s going to set forth rules and severely restrict food intake is going to create fear around certain foods. In this case that food category is carbohydrates. Any type of diet like this gives me pause because it can promote disordered eating and an unhealthy relationship with food.”

I hope her healthy relationship with carbs is long and prosperous. For most of America, it is none of the above. “Fear” is not what I think of when I see processed foods, vegetable oils and sugar. It’s more like anger (at all the lies I’ve been told for the past 40 years). Fear might actually do some people some good.

:clap:t4: yes to all of this

The language is hilarious “forcing the body into a state of ketosis” & “notoriously restrictive” & “severely restrict food intake” - apparently the last one is OK if you’re restricting fat & animal products.

Have you noticed there’s a new South Beach diet commercial that says KETO Friendly foods in it like 6 times… I think they are playing on people ignorance… you don’t need to spend money on any “program” – just buy real foods!

I think when they refer to a diet being restrictive, they must be referring to those people who need to diet but are eating anything and everything. For me, because I was always trying to limit how much weight I gained, keto has been LESS restrictive. Before, I wouldn’t eat fats, cheese, whole dairy anything, fattier meats, etc. So now, with keto, I ADDED back in my mayo, olives, cheese, bacon, sausage, rib-eyes, etc.

I’m making hot chocolate with cocoa, 1 packet of sweetener, HWC and water…I’d never drink hot chocolate before keto. I’m having a snack of salami, cheese, and pickles when needed etc.

So for me, keto has been very “freeing”…and with IF, I don’t even feel guilty when I skip 2 meals.

Yeah having to limit everything is surely waaaay more ‘restrictive’ - a constant battle armed with the wrong weaponry.

“ While research shows that a ketogenic diet can help control seizures in children with epilepsy and may be beneficial to people with type 2 diabetes, “

Im surprised they didn’t throw in the “it gives you bad breath” line. “Hmmmmm, this is resolving my T2D and I no longer have to take any insulin but my breath! I must go back to eating sugar and carbs!”

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #12

My favorite argument is that keto is unsustainable and will kill us. Like we’re going to revert to eating sugar in week three, and then we’ll still die in the middle of week four!:rofl::bacon::bacon:

“Sorry, you don’t get to have biomedically and evolutionarily sound diet information because some mal-adapts might misuse it,” -nutritionists probably

Harvard School of Public Health, more likely.
