2 Months on Keto

Is being only 21lbs down on keto after almost 2 months bad? My boss who got me to get on keto was further along in his journey when he hit the 2 month mark.

Relax. 10 pounds per month is phenomenal. At that rate, by the end of the year you will be a willowy wisp of your former self.

Seriously, though, don’t expect this rate of loss to continue. Depending on how much fat you had when you started, the loss tends to slow over time. The last few pounds take the longest to lose. But don’t sweat it. A lot of good stuff happens when you start keto and stay consistently in ketosis. Fat loss is only part of it.

Welcome to the forum, Anita, and 2 months with 21 pounds is great. You will probably slow down now, actually. A lot of the initial weight loss is water weight. Keto is not a quick weight loss, it is a way of eating to improve your life. Once you are fat adapted, you will really notice all these amazing benefits!

Your boss lost faster because he is a male – our bodies hold onto the fat more as women due to hormones/mother nature (us being the glorious reproducers of humankind…). It is annoying for us ladies, but it seems to be the way it goes!

I have lost 63 pounds in a year, and I still have 100 to go --I was 293, now 230, and was wearing a 4X, down to a 1X and my goal weight is 130. You are doing great, keep up the good work, and if you have any questions, post away =).

“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Most early weight loss is water. As you go into ketosis, the glycogen stores are released. Glycogen binds up water. So as the glycogen is released, the water bound to it is also released. Whoosh.

It takes time to lose (or gain) a pound of fat (or muscle).

Are you serious? It’s a quick pace, what else could it be? And people are different, some has an unbelievable fat-loss in the first months, yep. But you are you, not your boss.

I had 0 fat-loss and 4 lbs water weight loss in the first 7 weeks, by the way (I ate just enough to satiate my hunger and didn’t eat much added fat as I had lots of fat from my protein sources. I ate just as much as before as my hunger stayed the same). But I felt good and regretted nothing. And then came fat adaptation and other things. Ketosis alone wasn’t enough for me to lose fat at that point. And I never could lose more than 1 pounds a week (I never lost fat that quickly but it’s theoretically possible) and that’s actually a good pace for many people (usually lighter, shorter women without a very active lifestyle), nothing is wrong with that.
And then you come being not totally satisfied with your great results… Of course, I don’t know your energy need, metabolism, food intake, anything. But even if you realistically expect a quick weight-loss - you have it! Unless if you lost most of this weight on the first weeks so that’s water.
