1st Keto Shopping list

(Nick) #21

At the 3 week mark I find myself 20 lbs lighter, I’ve suffered for about 9 years with lower back pain and knee pain. Those are all but gone! I don’t struggle falling asleep, headaches less often, less anxiety and depression. Too be honest… I was super skeptical when I was starting. Even as I listened to “The Dudes,” and while I watched my brother continue to thrive on Keto. But, thankfully I’m heading in the right direction. I looked in the mirror today and was shocked to see a shrinking gut. Plenty of work to do, but blown away with my progress. When i stepped on the scale after about 9 days, I could believe I lost 8lbs. Thankful to have this community.

My only struggles come from not being in-depth at cooking, and that bacon doesn’t cook itself :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Congratulations Nick! You are doing so well, lots of NSV’s too (non-scale victories in case the term is new to you).

I am not the biggest bacon fan; but I find the easiest and less messiest way to cook it is on aluminum foil placed on a cookie sheet in the oven;and then just toss out the sheet, and cleaning the rest of the bacon fat off the tray is not that bad.

That is great! And you are only just starting. It gets better and better!

I am not huge on bacon so if we get it, I usually get the pre-cooked stuff from Costco. Pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds and done. Lazy!

I put my bacon in the microwave for 5-7 minutes depending on how many strips are on the plate. Tastes great!

This is great but - just a reminder to keep a level head going forward.

As you may have read elsewhere on this site - big initial changes can lead to big expectations (i.e. pound-a-day changes likely won’t continue).
Don’t let a few weeks of nothing happening turn you off - times like that your body is just investing in the next change (better blood numbers, speeding up metabolism etc.) that put you in a better overall position going forward.

Also, be critical of yourself - if you are losing this weight mostly because of under-eating, you might want to reverse that trend as quickly as you can so you don’t kill your metabolism (i.e. eating too little of any type of macros - even Keto macros - will cause a calorie restriction slowdown likely resulting in a bounce and yet-even-higher weight gain).

Rob thank you for your continued advice! I’ve been cognizant of my macros trying to eat to my macros. I’m still learn but the constant I’ve heard is don’t give up. I honestly enjoy not eating carbage. I know this works and even if the weight loss slows, I’ll continue to power on. Your guidance is much appreciated.

Wow, this is such a feel-good post! I am very happy for you. Keto is the bomb.

I do minimal cooking as well. Thankfully, we eat one meal a day now, so that cuts down on a lot. Dinner is as easy as I can make it - pan fried meat, usually with some kind of steamed vegetable with butter and/or bacon grease (save that grease!). My husband cooks a pound of bacon at a time and does it on two cookie sheets. It comes out great, you don’t have to babysit it, and it doesn’t curl up.
