12 carbs no sugar OR 7 carbs w/ 4g sugar?

Well forgive all of us folk with many years of experience who are actually taking the time to try and understand your reasons so as to be able to best advise you… suggest you read your own comments and have a think about who is actually being rude here.

Just curious - which two cereals have those carbs? Seems low to me for a bowl of cereal.

A cup of corn flakes is 23 g.

#24

@ctviggen You’re right. It’s not going to happen for most people. It did happen to me as a non diabetic but I ate 140 grams ish of fruit carbs in one shot. Started shaking. Ex fruit addict.

Falling asleep without yawning sounds like insulin resistance.

#25

I think we lost this person on this forum
Keto? up to 20g allowed per day on an individual eating macro basis?
Ya’ll nailed this person to the wall real fast and while it was more info to learn of them, I found the judgement without that info just over the top truly. yikes

#26

I’d like to know why he feels he needs a bowl of cereal. There’s probably something missing in his woe.

Vitamin A,D,K?
Physical activity?
PUFAs?

#27

wow you got to be kidding here in full truth? What it takes for another with a life long eating change as the OP lives and breaths can never be brought down to this tiny bit of ??? this is oh so wrong

the keto and macro and eat this keto police just ruin experiences needed to change for others without in depth chat with the OP as in it is a given, nothing is a given on a personal change and what that person wants in their eating healthy change that can make it long term and work best.

Not saying this to you but we wonder why so many are turned away from forums like this?? yikes

(Allie) #28

All I did was ask why they had decided to do it, trying to understand their thinking, but got screamed at…

#29

@Fangs Your post is incomprehensible.

@Shortstuff It’s not what you asked. It’s how you asked it.

(Allie) #30

A straight question, what is wrong with that?

#31

The question you asked comes off as either a dismissive or smartass question instead a supportive/understanding question of why he decided to indulge in a bowl of cereal. It’s like asking an alcoholic, what made them decide to have a drink.

#32

I like you. Some people on here go out of their way to be condescending if you dare eat something they don’t eat. They think they’re better than others and talk down to people in a heartbeat. The amount of people who post here seems to have dwindled over the past year or so and there’s a reason for it. You may have better luck on keto sub on Reddit. Nicer people overall.

edit: word

Please, everyone, take a step back. Try to see if others’ posts are capable of a kindlier interpretation, and look hard at your own to see how they might be misinterpreted. Everyone’s on edge these days, so let’s try to be patient with one another and not assume ill intent. Criticising ideas is fine, criticising people is not.

The purpose of these forums is to provide information and support to people wanting to eat a well-formulated ketogenic diet. There are a lot of misunderstandings out there about such a diet, so questioning people to figure out their ultimate goals and clear up misconceptions is not out of bounds. If you see a post that you consider uncivil, please flag it and do not respond. Let the admin staff deal with it.

Hi Janie, I went with this one - the option without sugar. (Although if you ask certain people on this post, it might as well be frosted flakes)
The portion is only based on a half a cup, but that’s fine for me. I don’t plan to overindulge.

#35

Thanks to everyone who actually read the question and answered it. How it got so completely misconstrued is beyond me. For those who did not, I forgive you. There are two parts of what I wrote that some people must have missed:
I’ve decided to indulge…” I’m a grown man who is capable of making my own decisions and has earned the right to have an indulgence every now and then, thank you very much. I’m not here looking for permission or “affirmation”…I’m looking for knowledge that I can’t find elsewhere which brings me to #2:"(I)…have been researching…" I didn’t wander accidentally into a keto forum. I understand what the diet is about and I would not have come here with my question if I could have found what I wanted to know on a website.
Believe it or not, even as I want to indulge, I don’t want to stray off the keto path. That is why I am researching foods that will satisfy me while staying within the dietary guidelines. Again, thanks to everyone who provided some helpful feedback.

(Jane) #36

That doesn’t look too bad to me. If 1/2 cup satisfies your desire for a bowl of cereal then go for it.

Will you add milk, half and half or cream? Or eat it dry?

#37

Thank you for asking the question! It’s interesting even if (for most) just from an intellectual exercise point of view.

(Butter Withaspoon) #38

You’re welcome! I found your question interesting because I have a family member who insists on eating granola every day although I’m sure it’s not actually serving her. I think hers is sweetened and I’m sure there is a siren call of carb-sugar addiction with her.
But you know how it is with family, you have to be patient and only suggest things if asked.

I sometimes have a bowl of yoghurt chia milk and a little fresh apple as a treat dessert*. When I compare this with the box of ice cream or whole packet of corn chips or or (imagine list of processed foods!)

** Don’t do this if you are struggling with the sugar/addiction beast!

Honestly, in those amounts it’s not going to make a difference. It wouldn’t matter if the 12g was all from sugar… it’s TWELVE grams! You’re running with near no liver glycogen, and near no muscle glycogen normally. You’re just going to immediately incinerate it as a fuel source and it’ll be gone. You have zero chance of carb spillover and storage in those amounts. Wouldn’t make it an everyday thing, but here and there? Who cares. Neither one of them are evil. Just make sure your diet is good as a whole and don’t worry about random stuff here and there. It’s a WOE, not a religion. I’m a fan of the 90/10 rule.

(Edith) #40

I would pick the one that gives me the greatest quantity for the same amount of carbs. :yum:

As far as lesser of the two evils, it depends upon you. Would the sugar option set up cravings whereas the one without added sugar would not?

I would pick BACON!!
