I am aware that this has been answered in the past, most probably, but I need some encouragement or some guidance…I do want to keep going. I am 54 and I am the largest I have ever been 140 lbs and only 5’2. My goal goal being is 120/125 lbs. I have had to diet since I was little (true) and I was always able to manage my weight until I reached menopause ( menopause is a tsunami on your body I must say). I am in Argentina now and I go out of my way to find all things I need to follow Keto (tough in far away places).
Thanks SOOO Much ~
10 days on ket and zero weight loss...is it normal?
I don’t have any answers for you , but i am in the exact same boat as you. Same height, age, goal weight and menopausal. I am the heaviest i have ever been in my life as well. I have been following strict keto for 3 weeks and have lost maybe 1lb… but from what I’ve been reading , this is normal and you body is healing. I do think I am seeing a difference in my clothes, but nothing huge. I am sticking with this though and crossing my fingers i can get healthy and to my goal weight. How do you feel? Better, worse?
Thank you Maryann! so encouraging…I am sticking with this too! I am traveling in a week and it will be a challenge but other than that, I am in…and not giving up!
Normal, the body is shifting what it is using as primary fuel and has been using fat cells to store your fat and burning glucose. You now are feeding it fat to burn and thinks you will give it back some glucose so it is keeping your fat in storage. You will start to not feel hungry and at that point do not eat till hungry and during that time your body will start to use your fat for fuel. As stated you are healing and changing your fuel supply the body mass reduction will come just stay the course. After fat adapted you can speed the body burn by introducing fasting.
Ten days is very early into the process, and weight loss is more difficult for women than for men. So yes, not losing during the first week and a half is normal. People close to their goal weight also lose more slowly than others do. The ketogenic way of eating is best thought of as more a way of life than as a short-term diet. In my view, the primary benefit of nutritional ketosis is the metabolic healing it promotes, and any weight loss is but a small part of that healing. Also, if you have been restricting your caloric intake for any length of time you may find that your body puts on lean muscle mass when you finally start giving it enough energy. If you go by your scale weight, the gain in muscle may offset the loss of fat, so keep track of your dress size and don’t pay too much attention to what the scale is doing.
