Today is my one year anniversary eating keto. The first few weeks as I was learning I’m sure I ate things that weren’t considered keto. I didn’t start out tracking food was just kinda winging it as I was learning. I did have some help from a friend who is a keto coach. A few weeks in I started tracking food and was able to better plan what I ate on a daily basis. All in all, I love eating keto and I have never had any reason or yearning to cheat. Why cheat when you can eat eggs and butter and steak and bacon and there are so many awesome recipes to easily make if you have a hankering for something sweet.
So, this next year I think I will focus on other aspects of bettering my health. For starters, I want to find skin care products (for my face) that are not full of chemicals. Currently I am working on using up the last few containers of a popular skin care product and I just happened to look at the list of ingredients and freakin maltodextrin was listed as an ingredient. WTF?! Maltodextrin? In face cream products. So I’ve been smearing it on my face for the last year along with other chemicals?
To make a long story short, does anyone have any recommendations for facial skin care products that are not chock full of chemicals and maltodextrin? And does not cost hundreds of dollars a month to purchase?
1 year keto anniversary
Happy birthday
As for skin care products, my rule is if I can’t eat it it’s not going on my skin. Everything you put on your skin is absorbed. So I use coconut oil or shea butter.
Yes, I use it for both. In winter, it needs to be heated a little. That’s the only caveat.
I found this recently and plan to start doing it regularly. Winter here really does a number on my skin. I have not been good about taking care of it, I was so allergic to all the skin care products when I was a teen, I just never started using them. Soap and water is all I have used. Now I felt I needed to do more. (Probably another keto effect).
This is very basic and suggests additives of essential oils for other benefits besides cleansing and moisturizing.
What do you use for shampoo? Love the simplicity of your idea – only what goes in the bod is allowed on the face.
I’ve not found a natural way to wash my hair yet. So I use a shampoo which is low in chemicals (without silicone, paraben…). But, once or twice a week, I put coconut oil on my hair and leave it all night. It nourishes them deeply.
Egg makes a great facial mask. Eat them or put them on your face, eggs are good for you.
I make a mixture of cocoa butter and shea butter, with a little coconut oil. The coconut oil can have a drying effect for me, so I go easy on it.
I clean my hair once a week and when I do, I use and egg yolk mixed with soft/distilled or rain water (you can’t use hard water for this method). I have been doing this for almost 3 years now. My profile pic, is when I was 2 years into this method.
For conditioning, I use aloe gel & jojoba oil mixed together and applied to my damp ends to seal in moisture and air dry. Sometimes I use coconut milk as a conditioner. I open the shaken up can pour into an ice tray and freeze into cubes. When needed, I take out a cube to thaw & add water. All my mixes I put into a condiment bottle that has a long nozzle to apply in the shower.

Today is my one year anniversary eating keto.
Happy ketoversary!!
Congratulations on your one year Ketoverasry!
As for skin care products, I wash my face with warm water and goat milk soap. Next, smear on some sweet almond oil, massage in and wait a few minutes while I work on more of my “toilette”.
Finally, I take a warm, damp washcloth and wipe off any excess oil, but not every single bit. My skin is doing beautifully, from what others tell me, and I am very happy with keeping it simple and “clean”.
@Sheri_Knauer Congrats lady! Mine is coming up on the 15th, it is truly an exciting time. Keto on sista!
