1 keto month no weight/measurement loss

(Erica) #1

I have been doing strict keto for a month now. I count macros (20 net or less a day); IF 16/8 daily and 1 meal only once a week; haven’t cheated even once (don’t have craving to anyways since I cut sugars and carbs from my diet years ago when doing a very successful AI diet prior to hip surgery); exercise 2-3 times a week; am moderately active daily (used to be extremely active ); take B vitamin complex, mag and recommended supplements; and drink half my body weight in water daily.

In the beginning I was good on energy, but now since week 3 I am extremely lethargic and tired, to the point all this week depressed. Why am I not loosing weight at or as well as NOT losing any inches? I see all these faces daily on FB support pages where people loose the first week. I am discouraged. My husband just started 3 days ago - eating exactly what I prepare for myself and he already is seeing and feeling results and he doesn’t lightly work out twice a week like I do.

There’s two things; keto for weight loss, and keto for health. If this is only for weight loss, there’s many dietary choices before you. If you’re doing keto for health, weight-loss is merely the bacon on top of this lifestyle change. I strongly encourage you to review: http://pwop.com/download/TheKetogenicDietInANutshell.pdf

Health, or weight-loss: which is your strongest motivator?

BTW; one-week weight loss stories are a red herring.

I would just add that you can’t let the FB or redditt stories get you down. For every “3 weeks in and 30lbs down!” story posted, I guarantee you there are 25 stories more similar to yours, but those people don’t make posts so it’s easy to think that the extreme cases are actually the norm. But they aren’t.

I understand the frustration but I can tell you from my experience that I felt some energy dips early on as well. I think this is just your body adjusting to running off a different fuel (ketones). My advice is:

  1. Make sure you’re keeping well hydrated
  2. Make sure you’re getting enough electrolytes, sodium in particular. An electrolyte imbalance or deficiency can definitely lead to fatigue.
  3. Try to eat a bit more fat so your body has lots floating around to use for energy/ketone-production.

Good luck!

Could you post a day of meals?

Well, most men have an easier time of it, hey Guys, I said “most” ok?

This sounds like you are needing some healing, and you are not fully fat adapted. It takes just as many people months to see good results as the FBookers’ reports of massive losses in a week. If you were already eating lower sugar and starch, then you probably aren’t retaining as much water weight. Also you might weigh a heck of a lot less.

And if it is for health and not weight loss I think it is more normal to not lose quickly. You should just KCKO.

This is me exactly - thank you for sharing! I felt great until keto insomnia and I think maybe exercising while sleep deprived has left me feeling stripped of all energy/muscles are lathargic. I mm sticking with it - mentally I am all in. I don’t weigh. ever. I would like for my clothes to fit better which to date has not really happened…but know this journey is peaks and valleys (just waiting for a peak).
