0.4 ml ketone reading. Close enough?

I’m 4 weeks into the diet and yesterday was the only day that I went over my carbs because I splurged on fried brussel sprouts. Anyway, today I ran, did IF, and had a nice fatty breakfast.
To the point…this afternoon I used my blood meter and it registered 0.4ml using the Precision meter. So, would you say I’m in ketosis? I know they can fluctuate.
I’m 145 and am doing this diet for my PCOS/IR/weight loss.

Yes, ketone levels can fluctuate. They can also drop after excercise, especially before you’re fat adapted (i.e. before your muscles adapt to using fatty acids directly for energy). Each type of test/equipment also has a margin of error (I don’t know what that might be for your equipment). So, your levels might be slightly lower or higher than reported. But I’ve heard that if your body is producing any ketones, that is the definition of ketosis.

I don’t think you should stress about this and I hope this helps put your mind at ease. KC and KO!

Thanks! I was wondering if the average person eating the SAD would even produce ketones….

Yep, still in the game. Anything from 0.4-1.4 is in the light range and 1.5 to 3 is in the optimal. Ketone levels can fluctuates depending on a ton of things you do or don’t do during the day. I wouldn’t stress, your still in it. Just KCKO!

Fried brussel sprouts is a spluge?

Don’t know about the average person, but my husband doesn’t even attempt low carb…he does eat a lot meat, but he eats bread products every day & junkfood EVERY night. He has a semi IF schedule (no breakfast, eats only after work/at night) and his blood ketone range is always .4-.8
I thought that was so crazy!

 when you have 8 and count all the carbs they are! So, I just read that you dont have to count the carbs from Swerve sweetener.

Update. I took a closer look at the macros I set in Carb Manager and I’m having too much protein!!! Hopefully this was the reason why. :stuck_out_tongue::sunglasses:

I think it at 4 weeks it is possible that you are not producing a lot of β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) yet. That is the type of ketone that the precision blood meter tests for. Also, the best time to test is in the morning in a fasted state. The thinking around that is that is the time that you will have the least amount of confounding factors such as food, exercise, hydration, etc…

Lots of people don’t count carbs from fiber and sugar alcohols but it really depends on the individual. If your results are not what you are hoping for, I would look to counting all carbs and/or eliminating a.s…
