Yet another reason to buy grass fed

I’m a very patient person and expect to live a long time.

Vitamins n k2 is a good enough reason. Menaquinine. :+1:

I’d much rather the cows and pigs eat the skittles and turn that into yummy fat for me to feast on. We supplement our dairy herd with bakery waste. if you knew the operating margin for the average farmer this makes a whole lot of sense.

It is pretty much impossible for urban dwellers to appreciate the life of a farmer.

(Guardian of the bacon) #25

I don’t know of a single dairy that isn’t feeding some type of by-product.

(Ross Daniel) #26

It is tough to relate. I have relatives that live in Kansas that are farmers. I spent a little time there as a kid, but all I know is, I know enough to realize how far removed I am from it living in the city.

(Guardian of the bacon) #27

It’s a totally different lifestyle that requires different priorities.

(Guardian of the bacon) #28

It really is a shame that most people are so far removed from their food supply.

(joe churchill ) #29

Gotta know your farmer.

The practice of feeding animals food waste goes back centuries. Ask people who have chickens in their backyard for fresh eggs if they toss some table scraps for them to peck at. Of course they do.

I’m not freaked out by this. As the humans stop consuming so much crap (like skittles) the quality of food waste going back to the farmers will get better.

Reading that makes me want to become vegan. But darn, meat tastes too good. :grinning:

(Mark) #32

Since you have been around, farming,is it true that grass fed beef is tougher than regular beef because they have to use their muscles more to move around to different pastures,I’ve never done a comparison but it makes sense

#33

@Bacon, I have noticed more marbling with meat of animals that have been grain fed (ie. Fattened with a diet of grain). You can see the difference at the store…put a grain-fed and grass-fed steak side by side, and it’s usually quite obvious.

Or her!!

(Mark Bousquet) #35

Toxic laden fat I don’t want any where near my body. Thanks!

(Derek I. Batting) #36

What toxins are you speaking of exactly?

(Marc) #37

If you’re skeptical, go to the farm and buy off the farm. Know your farmer.
Also, the meat will taste different than your normal store bought beef.

I’ve noticed this too. I’m assuming it has to do with the fat content and composition. But the lean part of the meat also looks darker for some reason. And is labeled as “no additives” so that would rule out food dyes unless they’re being dishonest.

(Marc) #39

Grass fed is more nutritious and contains much more Omega-3

Another thing that I can’t find at the moment, is that animals properly fed and raised will reduce inflammation when you eat them. This will become more apparent if you want to lose more weight.
