Why aren't people using macadamia oil?

(Consensus is Politics) #21

I actually love the taste of coconut. The first time I made coffee with it I thought, “wow, I’ve been missing out”.

The Walmart brand seems to have the best taste to me. Very strong coconut flavor. I can just grab a spoonful and go. It’s like eating ice cream😉.

Me too!

Just started to use Avocado Oil in cooking. Very happy with it. No taste. Got mine at TJs.

Macadamia is the best. Most “Olive” oil is actually not Olive anymore…it’s watered down with Vegetable oil (high omega 6 - inflammatory).

Macadamia Oil is expensive and it spoils very quickly so if you do not use it quickly in the kitchen you may be losing a lot of money. But it is nice for frying some goat cheese for salads, or when you want a nutty taste on fish or chicken.

This is a very loaded statement! I am not sure what you mean by “most.” The Olive oil “blends” that restaurants use are often a blend of olive and canola–sad. However, it is NOT the case that “olive oil” in the grocery store is anything except olive oil. The controversy that exists is actually over extra-virgin olive oil, which has a technical definition. Many brands of extra-virgin olive oil were found to largely fail to meet the standard to be called extra-virgin olive oil. However, they were still 100% olive oil.

I just love macadamia nuts so much, I toss then in my salads. Make fat bombs with cocao powder, macs, and coconut oil. And I’ve used them as a fat supplement when fasting for extended periods of time. They are my go tos for breaking my fasts, I have a few, wait a while then have my break fast meal.

The oil alone is a taste issue for me. I am a foodie, so taste does matter a lot. I get plenty of the benefits from the nuts I eat. Avocado oil is much better for cooking, doesn’t impart a strong flavor and 1/2 EVOO and 1/2 avocado oil in homemade mayo is my sweet spot. I do use some cold pressed hazelnut oil with champagne vinegar to make a great vinaigrette. It is pricier then other oils as stated above.

So, this thread inspired me and I went to Amazon. I found a 16oz bottle for $12 after shipping. Really a pretty good price, about the same price for the same volume of avocado oil, and only a little more than coconut oil locally. Here is the brand name:

Piping Rock 100% Pure Virgin Macadamia Nut Oil 16 fl oz

Please cite your source for that statement, as well as any information about fake olive oil.

I’ve already done proper research. You are free to do the same.

That’s a great idea I’ve been looking for something other than blue cheese think I’ll try that do you mix it with anything like vinegar?

(Bev Anne Moynham) #33

I use straight Macadamia Nut Oil on salads where I can taste it – it’s delicious but, for me, it is too expensive to cook with or hide its flavour. I also love raw macadamia nuts but they are an expensive treat. Both the oil and the nuts are hard to find and expensive here in Canada but I have found sources for both.

(Duane) #34

I just added some pink salt…vinegar would probably be good too…

(Duane) #35

Yeah nuts in general are crazy expensive…The oil is a fairly local product round here so it might help with pricing

Thanks buddy

I find the avo oil really strong, like avos on steroids. Way too strong for mayonnaise. I would drizzle it on salad though.

(Annette) #38

I don’t get it. Are you buying a refined version? I have an organic one and it’s way too strong.

(Annette) #39

So strong! Both oils.
